Otis Taylor
Yesterday I watched the DVD version of Public Enemies wasn't much different from the cinema version . But one thing which caught my attention or my ears is the BGM . The ost made me rediscover my long lost love for Blues . I was just listening to BB.King and Muddy Waters since yesterday even at work . The song which made me reignited my passion for Blues is Otis Taylor Ten Million Slaves . Blues is the most under-appreciated for of music Gospel Soul and even Jazz have main stream popularity but blues hasn't enjoyed that since 50s . The genre of Blues I love is Electric Blues .. the current musicians which are into Blues have lost the peppy tempo . Rock N Roll is a knockoff of Blues, Elvis sang blues The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds,Cream,Dylan and Zeplin all were inspired Blues . Later on as Rock N Roll evolved to Rock and its variant Punk/Metal . Blues seemed to be forgotten with new talents more interested in variants .
I haven't enjoyed a contemporary blues song since ages . When I was checking out the ost : Otis Taylor Ten Million Slaves just blew me off . Its beautifully used in the movie and the track just ignites passion for good music .

MINMI - Japanese Hip-Hop, Reggae and Soca Artist Extraordinaire
Ever since I saw her music video "The Perfect Vision" a few years ago, one of my favorite Japanese singers has been the Osaka-born MINMI. She can sing, she can dance, and she's beautiful. She has fans not only in Japan, but also in the Caribbean island nations of Jamaica - the homeland of ska, dancehall and reggae - and Trinidad & Tobago - the homeland of calypso, steelbands and soca (soul + calypso).
Unlike fellow Japanese R&B singer Aoyama Thelma who has a grandfather from Trinidad and Tobago, MINMI is full Japanese. Here are a couple of MINMI music videos which have got stuck in my head, "STEP" and the soca number "Summertime!!"

Aoyama Thelma, Japan's Rising R&B/Pop Star
Quote:
Born on October 27, 1987 in Nara, Japan, the soon-to-be 22-year-old R&B/pop singer hit it big on the Japanese pop charts in 2008 by being featured on Japanese rapper SoulJa's single, Koko ni Iru yo / SoulJa feat. Aoyama Thelma. Aoyama surpassed it with an even bigger hit in 2008, her answer song featuring SoulJa in 2008, Soba ni Iru ne / Aoyama Thelma feat. SoulJa. Below are a couple of music videos which feature Aoyama Thelma singing in English and English & Japanese, respectively, the first one is a cover by Japanese DJ MAKIDAI of the 1993 Mariah Carey tune "Dreamlover," the second one is a house track by Japanese DJ MAKAI, "Garden of Love." A Trio of Songs by Female R&B/Hip-Hop Artists in Japan
Born November 2, 1981 in Los Angeles, California, USA but having spent much if not most of her life in Japan, Ai Carina Uemura (愛カリーナ植村) aka AI is a Japanese American singer/songwriter. Three quarters Japanese and one quarter Italian, AI is often known as the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul in Japan," though she has branched out from that musical genre since her 2004 Japanese hit single, "After the rain."
A superb singer and dancer, AI once sang in a choir at a concert by Mary J. Blige, the "Queen of Hip-Hop Soul," when she was only 17 and has danced in a Janet Jackson music video, "Go Deep" (1998). For more information on AI, check out her unofficial Facebook page (it's in English) and google her full real name, Ai Carina Uemura. After the rain / AI Prominent female DJs are a rarity anywhere, but Japan has produced a number of them, such as DJ MAYUMI, DJ SILVA, and DJ KAORI. DJ KAORI honed her skills in New York City, deejaying private parties for Diddy, basketball superstar Michael Jordan, heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson, and other celebrities. Google DJ MAYUMI, DJ SILVA, and DJ KAORI for more information. DJ MAYUMI produced a 2007 music video, "DIAMONDS," with herself at the helm, and featuring the vocal talents of JAMOSA, LUNA, [DJ] SILVA and ia. I could find official, bilingual (Japanese and English) MySpace pages for DJ MAYUMI, JAMOSA, LUNA and DJ SILVA, but none for ia. They are all full Japanese as far as I know except JAMOSA, who is half Japanese and half aboriginal Taiwanese - hence the name, JAMOSA ("JAMOSA" = "JA[PAN]" + "[FOR]MOSA" {derived from Portuguese, Formosa is the old name for Taiwan}). In her English language song "REMINISCING," which can be heard on her MySpace page, JAMOSA explores and remembers her Austronesian Taiwanese and Japanese roots. DIAMONDS / DJ MAYUMI featuring JAMOSA, LUNA, SILVA & ia Lastly, there is a little known Japanese R&B/club/J-pop singer named Lisa Yamaguchi ( 山口リサ, Yamaguchi Risa). But check out who Lisa Yamaguchi's MySpace Friends are: Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Keyshia Cole, Kylie Minogue and Amerie (who is a US counterpart to Japan's Crystal Kay: both are half Korean and half African American), to name just a few. Quite an impressive list of celebrity friends for a relatively obscure musical artist... Watch Lisa Yamaguchi's music video, "Secret Drive." Secret Drive / Lisa Yamaguchi
