I once heard that a lot of times, everytime someone recommends Rurouni Kenshin, they usually always use the prequel OVAs for people to watch (especially if they are fond of historical shenanigans). Unfortunately for me, I felt that this is just an integral buildup that people needs to check it after finishing the original series (either the manga or the TV series' first 62 episodes) as I believe that if they only watch the OVAs, in my eyes something just seems missing right there.

Yeah, I agree. Most of the OVA's will leave you wondering if you haven't seen a large part of the anime. And although Trust & Betrayal can easily be watched without prior knowledge, it's more meaningful watching it when you're halfway through the series. By that time you know what kind of man he's become, and are eager to know what made him that way. And if people watch T&B before the series, they'll expect more of the same and likely end up disappointed.

Can't disagree more. I guess that if someone wants to watch Rurouni Kenshin as an anime, one would better off watching the OVA once he/she gets past the Kyoto arc of the TV series so that there'll no need of disappointment while watching with little to no expectations.
