That may or may not be true. If the reason why they are coming to Earth if because of reproduction issues (as Hagino states in Episode 9), they could still have problems dealing with mutations and malignant genes within their population. A fresh infusion of genetic material would, theoretically, help to change that. Like I said before, one would hope that Arume scientists would have worked that all out before dumping resources into acquiring another planet and another population. Throwing unexamined genetic material into one's genome without having given it some serious study does not sound very intelligent to me.

It is more likely that the aliens just want a more habitable planet than their own. Maybe they have experienced an "end of the world as they know it" ...

That's a very real possibility. Of course, there could be others. Got anymore theories?

But this actually brings on another interesting question. Since those aliens are so human-like, I would say they share the same ancestry as us... since no random evolution can explain all those similarness...

Well since this is fiction, I'd say that the author chose to create a life-form he was most familiar with

Theories aside... it's been stated in the manga they came to Earth due to their genetic diversity problem. Maybe IRL that doesn't make sense, but again, Yoshitomi is not a scientist. Heck, they can reproduce within their single gender because their DNA is mixed with nanomachines. Does that make any sense to you? Please, let's not forget this is fantasy.

The only example I know of half Arume half human is Yui. She certanly inherited many traits from the Arume, such as their characteristic blue eyes, the ability to manipulate Emiru Force, and their sexual orientation. It would make sense to think she can impregnate a human woman too.

Whether or not reproducing within a single gender would cause a noticeable increase in birth defects, it is brought out that the Arume have been experiencing an increase in serious birth defects and have found the cause to be their single-gender breeding.

Something else to consider is that the Arume have a strong symbiosis with their nanomachines. These are what enable them to breed amongst themselves (and Horime), so all bets are off on how these things affect fertilization, implantation, etc. Up until now we've been discussing natural methods of single-gender reproduction, but the Arume's method is anything but natural.


Ekaril explains that they're from another "organic layer" of the universe (the Japanese here literally translates to 'membrane'), which I guess would be something like a parallel universe. She also explains that they aren't 'space aliens,' as in they didn't come from space (or another planet, as I infer), meaning that they're from earth, but not this earth.

I had actually forgotten about that line, but that's a good point as well. It explains the close similarities between the races but unfortunately does not explain the obvious question which is how the Arume got to the point they are at today. I think it's best to leave that to conjecture though....once we start on alternate reality discussion everything goes out the window.

Actually I think the nanomachine part is plausible... If the alines do have genetic diversity problem, it is possible that all the surviving aliens are established from a small group of ancesters... like what happened when a few people move to an islolate island and form a colony there.

So yes, it's not a bad idea to come to the earth for genetic diversity, which certainly does not lack that...

Human males are literally third rate citizens, below females of both races. Because there are new females added to the gene pool the Arume no longer want or care about the Human males anymore.

From there you can conjecture that eventually the human males will be wiped out and the human females will be part of the Arume race.

They didn't. They came to experiment on us and try to find a possible solution. However, you might say they got a bit... sidetracked

Basically, they were looking to reintroduce men into their species, and not everyone (read: a lot of women in powerful positions) weren't all that keen on the idea. Eventually everyone seemed to forget all about their original goal, and the Arume homeworld even cut ties with the earth government completely and the Emiru Force Drive technology was lost to the ones on earth, stranding them here.

All of this is in the official chronology, by the way.

Well, FatPianoBoy is correct as well. It's not *all* Arume, just the ones on Earth mainly. Still, the damage is/was done so dissent really doesn't matter at that point.

In the manga it's shown that even human women are starting to find men unappealing.

Although the girls at Shōta's "new school" came to like him pretty fast IMO. It seems Yoshitomi is revisiting the old "lesbianism is possible only when there are no men around" cliche. At least when it comes to human girls.

It seems that all schools are segregated by gender, and most females have little to no interaction with boys their age (except maybe relatives), and they all wanted some face time with this strange new creature. Whether or not any of them develop feelings for him remains to be seen, but I seriously doubt it.

I don't think he's falling into that old cliche. Remember Kotoko's traumatic experience catching a glimpse of something? She even ran to those jerks from Arume Street for comfort.

And one of Yui's closest comrades is male. She likes teh womens, but she's not trying to stomp on the men

Anyone has idea who is the representatve of the human side in the peace negotiation in the first episode? I think she is one of the main characters. I really cannot recognized her voice, though, or they might actually change the CV to hide this information from us.

Could that be Mari? If so, that means she will survive?

The original Blue Drop story, for me, was very confusing. I like the anime more just because I can actually see the bigger picture. I have not read the newer Blue Drop manga yet.

I'm going to put my money on it being Micchi. She's idealistic and she quotes a philosophical line that would be rather uncharacteristic of Mari. And Micchi is right up that kinda alley of phrases with how she writes plays and other stories, drama club, etc.

I agree, based on her glasses and general appearance. And the voice could well be Yukino Satsuki's (Micchi's seiyuu). Your point about her language is good. In my imaginary final episode, she is flying off to negotiate with a committee one of whose members is Hagino. But now I'm 50-50 whether Hagino and Mari survive. The preview on the official site says...

...the Arume used to have both sexes, but men gradually died out for some reason. They altered their own bodies in such a way that they could reproduce, in a way that is still described as "technological." But "technological reproduction reaches a limit" (no more detail is given) and they came to Earth seeking a natural way to reproduce. On Earth, however, they were a "third sex," and they "drove the women crazy and destroyed the men." There are at least two factions among Arume scientists ten years after the invasion of Japan: one faction regrets causing such harm on Earth and is seeking a way to atone, while still finding the new reproductive methods they came for. The other faction just wants to get rid of males, as far as we know so far.
