Nope. Technology isn't there yet to move those stuff in and out at immediate notice.

Speaking about this, I spoke to my friend's mum about her missing son earlier today. She requested to the embassy people that they fly in a DART (local elite disaster relief team) team, and the reply was (according to her) that they have to speak with the Japanese government before they can send any aid.

And with communications there in a total disarray, how can that offer be dealt with efficiently? I love red tape. *sarcastic*

I don't think any country has offered to send aid yet no?

The only difference his statement will make is only when it includes something about the 7th Fleet mobilising.

Just got home and saw the vids. Those are very disturbing news. Here's hoping the casualties won't go any higher than they already are...

My father's co-worker from IBM is currently trapped in a collapsed building in Japan. The walls are broke and prevent escape, but luckily he's unharmed. I really hope any potential aftershocks don't further weaken the building.

Best of wishes and condolences to the Japanese.

My friend was talking to her sister from Tokyo via Skype when the earthquake hit, and she said books were falling from the bookshelves, etc. That's gotta be scary to know that all this is happening, and I hope that this catastrophe doesn't escalate.

My thoughts go out to those in Japan and the surrounding areas. Here's hoping for the best!

I saw the footage this morning, and the officials expect the death toll to be at least 1000 as of the writing of this article.
http://www.trust.org/alertnet/news/d...ng-1000--kyodo

Now there's the possibility of a problem with a damaged Japanese Nuclear power plant.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/...ry?id=13114181

My prayers go out to all the people of Japan.

It's not a troll. It's believed to be a mistranslation by the BBC/typo by someone on other forums. Someone misreading an 8.8(度?) somewhere as 8.8万. The reported counts by the media are "300+" dead and "500+" missing.

The US military is reported to be sending in coolant to that reactor.

I got a friend in Marunouchi missing for the past 9 hours, and his parents are unable to get anything from the embassy. And he hasn't tweeted, emailed, sms-ed or called any of us friends or even his parents. His mother called me twice already looking for news, and his phone, skype and MSN are unreachable.
Hell I'd wish if they requested aid then our government mobilizes us to go aid in rescue efforts. Our Engineering equipment is suited for this. DART? Send our battalion too dammit... I so badly wish to do something but all we can do is watch and pray....

Talking about 88,000 people were missing, didn't know it was a troll until people suggested it was. Wasn't being mean.

While the worse part of the actual quake and tsunami are most likely to be over, the recovery and clean up will the painful part. My condolences to victims, and may northeast Japan makes a speedy recovery from the disaster.
