I'm so excited that it looks like the EX version is finally getting translated. I've been looking forward to play my copy for God knows how long. I assumed I would have to wait until the translation team had finished Kud, Haruka and Refrain ^^.

So, how different is the common route in the EX version and how much longer are the character routes in comparison? I blasted through a substantial chunk of the game in Japanese one night, but I didn't manage to meet either Kanata or Saya.

you won't get the choice to meet Saya (which is, if I remember correctly, Riki going to school at night because Masato left his notebook in their classroom) if you answered no to the question asked to you when you first start EX. You won't meet Saya at all if you didn't make that choice, you should've met Kanata either way though, since she's also part of Haruka's route. =D

The issue is not translating so much as patching for the moment. Patience; the translators have said they plan to translate the EXtra routes after they're done with vanilla, though there seems to be a high chance that they'll be releasing a ME and EX compatible patch that translates exactly as much as the patch just released for the Mio (+ previously done) route(s).

I doubt the translators will support that themselves, though you may get lucky and have someone willing to attempt to port the translator.

I don't think they're going to be tranlsating the PSP version at least at the same time as the PC ones, since that means a whole lotta more work.

Also, you have to either have answered "yes" to the first question the game asks when you first ran it ("Do you already know the secret of this world?" or something like that), or have played through Refrain, to unlock the three new routes. It makes sense, too - the three routes draw heavily from the "secret of this world" which you learn from Refrain.

Let's hope they aren't just resaying how they are going to do EX and ME after the vanilla is finished, I'd love to play the EX version when I get my new year laptop

Well, whenever they feel like releasing a patch for Ex, I'll be able to ready something good for anyone who likes the mini-games in common route...

I don't even know that Mio patch is already available.
