BBC Japanorama Documentry, HOLY CRAP!

I just finished watching the fourth episode of Japanorama, a British documentry on Japanese culture. Unfortunatly it's the only episode i've been able to get my hands on so far, but this seems like it may be the most interesting documentry i've ever seen.

This episode talks about the Yakuza (Japanese Mafia), and how they are portraid in Japanese cinima, as well as violence in Japanese movies in general. They also talk to ex-Yakuza members who now suffer shame and have a hard time finding jobs because their missing fingers (they have to cut them off when they displease their bosses or leave the mob) so they go to this prosthetic place that makes them prosthetic fingers.

It also talks about a Japanese game show called crybaby where a bunch of girls live in a house together for a week and every day they eliminate the girl who cries the least. They keep their tears in vials and measure them to see who is crying the most. Then they interview the winner who tells about and demonstrates her secret technique of making herself believe that if she doesnt lace up her shoes in less than 60 seconds her mother will be murdered which makes her cry if she fails because she's sad or if she wins because she's happy. very weird.

It also gets into anime and a J-pop band called Pizzicato Five, which was cool but not as much as the rest. I also thought the man who host the show was pretty funny too.(I believe he's very well known for being a great documentry writer)

Does anyone know how many episodes this series will be? Ive heard there are other episodes dealing with men who grope young women in crowded trains and buses, and even a business that is set up to look like a crowded train or street full of cute girls that you can grope all you want! As well as other perverted Japanese things. I WANNA SEE IT!! I'm hoping it comes over here in an unedited format since there are a couple video stores in the Seattle area that might carry something like that.

Has anyone else seen any of this series? What are your thoughts?

Are you talking about that Paris Hilton sex tape (sorry if you wanted to keep it in code)? It was pretty crappy if you ask me, I had to get a friend to confirm that it was even her since the picture sucks and I don't know her look very well.

Omg, what>E>W>>W/??? she has a sex tape out? your kidding me?

IM just playing

anyways, i didnt think it was her either. but it must have been cuz i heard she said this

paris:" This [sex tape] has made me not want to party anymore, im so embaressed"

ahhhhhhhhhhh, poor girl

It doesnt really look like her, but it could be her considering her party life style.

Meeeeeeeeeeees thinks thats rupert murdock on bottom and he released the tape so he could create more buzz about "the simple life" that was coming out in a few weeks after.

Network execs are evil

I'm Afraid this is an old series that only aired on "BBC Choice" a cable/satellite only channel so I'm not sure how easy it would be to get hold of. Anyhow here the Spiel:

Japanorama on BBC Choice

Anime fan, Film Critic, Quiz show host and TV presenter Jonthan Ross hosts show on Japan!
Here are the official details:

Starting on Sunday 9 June 2002, 10pm: Jonathan Ross hosts this six-part series that explores Japanese cinema. From classics, such as Seven Samurai, to contemporary animation - it's all in here.

Shot on location in Japan, Wossy interviews those at the forefront of Japanese cinema, including directors, actors and animators. Computer game designers and pop stars also get a chance to air their views.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What the official details forget to mention is that the BBC have put some effort into this one! They've shot interviews with Hayao Miyazaki, Keiji Nakazawa, Shinya Tsukamoto and Mamoru Oshii too! So you are certainly going to get your anime fix from watching this series. The TV trailer showed clips from Blood the Last Vampire and Ninja Scroll.

The show will also have a feature on Licca-chan (think of her as the Japanese equivalent of Barbie). If you want to know more about Licca-chan before it is screened have a read of the Anime Encyclopaedia, since one of it's authors Jonathan Clements consulted on the show.

It's nice to know that the as always the BBC are making an effort with this and are putting our license fees to good use. Now if they would only screen Totoro or some other Miyazaki films we would all be happy! Or perhaps a weekly show in the 6pm to 7pm slot? ^_^

The presenter Jonathan Ross (Or Wossy as he is known) Is more of a comedic chat show host/film reviewer than documentary writer as far as I'm aware (Oh and he enjoys Anime too).

Damn, now I want to see the rest even more! They talk about Gogo 13 in the episode that I watched, and I believe they talk about Hentai at some point (crossing fingers ). I really hope that this series becomes easier to view, either through download or some kind of video release. I also like how they also give edicate lessons, this episode had the proper way to exchange business cards.

I just finished watching episode 3! It turned out to be the episode I was hoping for, it's all about Japans obsession with sex, and it was full of nudity and sex (god I love european TV ). It talks about the train gropers and even an author who wrote a book about train groping and videos. I was suprised how seriously Japan takes it softcore porn. It shows clips from a movie where a woman suffers from a water detention problem, water builds up inside her and if it builds up to much it will kill her. The only way for her to save herself is to have a man on call who will run and make love to her allowing these explosions of water to spray out of her vagina like a geyser . But what realy suprised me is that this movie won several independent film festivals. The other best part was when they show Japanese film stars put on live cosplay sex shows, and they show a scene from a sailormoon parody.

Anyways I'm suprised more people arn't aware of this series, because it has taught me more about Japanese culture then any anime or the travel channel. Anyone else seen any episodes? Any thoughts?
