People need to give this show time. This is one of those shows where the character starts from the bottom and works his or her way up. If they're looking for an immediately badass character without dealing with the past that made him that way, go watch Hellsing. Perfect for those kinds of people that's can't stomach anyone less than their ideal figure of masculinity.

For this show, it'll take a while, but I assure you there will be much badassery.

Here's a possible explanation for you. Bell has been potentially raised into the belief that it's the guy's role to go pick up girls. That's been established as the standard, and right way to find romance. The idea that a GIRL is trying to initiate the romance doesn't exist in his world view. That's why Hestia's affections don't reach him, because to him, "Guys hit on girls, girls don't hit on guys."

Additionally I think you're being too hung up on the rom-com cliches. The only cliche here in danmachi is Bell's obliviousness to the affections of other girls. Like the others have said, Hestia is a goddess and he's a mere mortal. Plus, like I said he's probably got the idea that it's guys who initiate and pursue the romance, not women. I think it's going too far to take one show of a romcom cliche and then pegging the whole series as a cliched romcom just because of that.

I think a lot of the irritation with harem/rom/romcom or anything with a prevalent romantic plot/subplot is that all too often authors take the lazy route of giving the MC some sort over the top character flaw to blatantly draw out the will-they won't-they of the relationship.

Bell didn't exactly do himself any favors completely ignoring Hestia's obvious flirting 14 or not, and that kind of blatant MC ignorance strikes a pretty raw nerve amongst many. If for no other reason than the next-level obliviousness shatters suspension of disbelief.

It would have been much better to simply not have that 'you have a girl in front of you' scene at all. There are better ways to explicitly convey a characters feelings to the audience without making the MC look like a derp.

and that is the big jackpot, the problem lies here at last for me, i dont have problem with the troop of starting in the bottom and become baddas later or being a badass in the beginner, my nevers aways lies in the romance and how the mcs are in most of the cases aways the same, how romance is aways played in the same way over and over.

I liked it. It was cute...but I've also read the novel.

Matsuoka Yoshigutsu once again plays a harem lead

Ep 01

Hmm ... not a bad adaptation of the source material (from what I remember, at least).

No great shakes per se, but I guess I will give a few more eps a try.

Wow. That's never actually occurred to me and it makes perfect sense as to Bell's density.

This is one of those stories you'll want to keep watching when it gets to volume 3-4 thats when it gets good. Wait for the Minotaur rematch at least.

Whatever else folks may think of it, Episode 1 was fun to watch, and I'm betting the next 11 will be too. Any old-school AD&D player is gonna be rollin' watching this and seeing his /her old campaigns reflected. If you did Fantasy RPG in the 70's & 80's this thing is pure comedy gold because you will be laughing at yourself.

Interesting for you to point this out. I was one of these actually (beginning in 1979 with the blue box edition for any who might know what that means) ... to be honest ADnD was not one of the things that came to mind in this regard, though I can kinda see what you mean in retrospect. ^^

Those sorts of details were not emphasized much way back when.

On other things, though, I did like the visuals of the first episode - I thought it was pretty well done as a package whole. The BGM was also kinda fitting.

The VA is plenty fine for fantasy dungeon crawl hack n slash sorta settings in general, but it still feels a little odd for me to be hearing him in such a high pitched voice range.

Ah, I soo want that image upgraded with everyone in the cast

Oh, the main site has a 16bit inspired Bell with a stat screen, that brought up all of my soft feelings.

1st episode was much more pleasant than what I thought it would be, and budget seems kinda of decent..... And I'll stop before commenting on JC Staff to keep myself positive

Good idea, you know how to make it work?
Share a fanart on the series twitter about your idea. They may like it and use it.

And apparently the original Hestia is more "decent" compared to Aphrodite.

Do drunk people usually talk at that level of logic. That was just terrible. I would be embarrassed if i heard someone equate saving a noob in a dungeon with wanting to date a guy.

You don't underestimate drunk logic.

Hestia is a virgin goddess along with Artemis and Athena.

Also:
Quote:
As "first to be devoured by Cronus. . . and the last to be yielded up again", Hestia was thus both the eldest and youngest daughter
And:
Quote:
Hestia rejects the marriage suits of Poseidon and Apollo, and swears herself to perpetual virginity. She thus rejects Aphrodite's values and becomes, to some extent, her chaste, domestic complementary, or antithesis.
And now the goddess who swore perpetua virginity is openly declaring her love for a human boy.

Long story short?

Not everybody acts that way, but.... Sometimes they do - yes.

****

On a different note I am reminded of some other anime that borrow from the various pantheons from Western mythologies (like, say, The World God Only Knows or Kamigami no Asobi) ... going 1=1 comparison wise with traditional deity portrayals and then comparing them with how they are adapted into Japanese franchises is ... well ... almost guaranteed to create headscratching .

It can be even worse. For example, I had some illogical argument with a friend all the way to 5AM and only found out the next day he was drunk. Never again.
