NHK has announced a live-action version of Futatsu no Spica (Twin Spica), set to premiere June 11.

The main character, Kamogawa Asumi, will be played by 16-year-old Sakuraba Nanami. I've never seen her act before, but she is a good visual match for the part:

The Japanese space agency JAXA is consulting on the project. They did a good job helping out Rocket Girls a while back, so that's a great sign.

Here's the wiki entry at D-Addicts: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Futatsu_no_Spica

And for those of you who read Japanese, here's the official NHK announcement: http://www.nhk.or.jp/dramatopics-blog/5000/17533.html

Kochikame TV Drama Announced.

Quote:
Kochikame, the longest continuously running manga in history, will be receiving an adaptation into a TV drama, reveals the latest Weekly Shonen Jump.Shingo Katori, the youngest member of famous Japanese band SMAP will be playing the role of lazy police officer Kankichi Ryotsu.Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kouen Mae Hashutsujo (This Police Station in front of Kouen Park, Katsushika Prefecture), usually shortened to こち亀 / Kochikame, has been continually serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump since 1976, making it the single longest running manga series in history.

The story deals with Kankichi Ryotsu, the lazy and undisciplined patrol cop and his equally bizarre police officer co-workers at the Kameari police station. A TV anime began in 1996 producing two theatrical films before ending in 2005.Details on the TV drama are scarce, but the casting of Shingo Katori (pictured above) as Ryotsu is receiving its good share of attention.Since SMAP is essentially a male idol group, created by famed talent agency Johnny’s and mostly popular among Japanese women, the choice of Katori for the manly Ryotsu has generated a fair amount of criticism.

BECK live action movie announced http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...hiro-mizushima

Focusing on Ryusuke.. I'd rather it'd stay closer to the manga.

Me too. I'm very dubious about this, though I'm a big Beck fan.

I'm a huge BECK fan as well. That's why I hope this won't be all pretty boys acting like they know how to play music. I mean I hope 1 year extensive training would be enough to make it look authentic.

It's hard to see how any adaptation that focus on Ryusuke instead of Koyuki could be terribly faithful. All in all, I would have been much happier with a second season of the anime.

KOF or King of Fighters video game will have a live action film

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_(film)

I hope this will not be in the ranks of the old streetfighter Vandame and Dead or Alive Live Action film.

I am very angry that a live action movie of Cowboy Bebop is being made, it is my second favourite anime ever , and a live action film-done by none other than Fox Studios-will destroy the legacy that is been created by CB being made for just two seasons.

I would prefer it if they made a thrid season/animated movie of the anime instead of going live-action.

A live-action version of Space Battleship Yamato is in development. Details at:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...in-development

Of course, whether anything will come of development is another matter entirely. They don't call it "development hell" for nothing.

We already know that an animated film is due this December.

^ Apparently so. I do wonder how the live-action version will turn out. Part of me fears that poor production values may make it look really cheesy. Oh well, we'll just have to wait and see.
