We stopped sending out Christmas cards about 10 years ago and now send Lunar New Year cards... they certainly get noticed more We just tend to duplicate what we do on Jan 1 (ozone, a few fireworks, food, fun). I usually buy a few amulets from the Shinto shrine near Seattle that serves anyone interested in Shinto.

This time of the year, I always get new burn scars while squeezing at this place.
Hopefully squeezing there this year will bag me a loli for a girlfriend.

Chinese New Year was always a wonderful time in my childhood. For the CNY week (school is off for a week) I'd visit relatives and parents' friends and collect red pockets ^_^ Back in the days the money I got from red pockets was more than half of my allowance for the whole year.
I don't particularly like the traditional food for CNY (Turnip cakes x_x). But my mom used to make Tangyuan with black sesame fillings, which I think is one of the best thing ever. |

Sigh, I wish I was in Korea or Japan for this. Korea gets a five-day long weekend, not sure about Japan or China! Obviously since I'm in NA I'm not getting any time off at all (a big test the day after actually), but I'm still going out with my other Asian friends to dinner I just wish they'd consider giving us even just one day of holiday for Lunar New Year, that would be really nice (and I mean, 50% of our school population is Asian...)

When I was small, Chinese New Year (CNY) was for me the time to eat and play as much as possible but as I grow up I finally understand that the true meaning of CNY is for the relatives to gather together once a year. That's why the Chinese have the reunion dinner at new year's eve, right? My family and relatives are still following the traditional practices though such as giving and receiving angpow (red packet), visiting the relatives (bai nian) and so on.
Oh..Today is CNY eve. For those who are still travelling back home, may you travel safely for the reunion dinner. GONG XI FA CAI XIN NIAN KUAI LE (Happy New Year)

All game for some nian gao (tikoy) on the table, but would like to have a round of rice wine or Tsingtao/Tiger/San Miguel for the win.
OBTW, born under the sign of the dragon ('76). Should be my lucky year. Advanced Chinese Happy New Year, peeps!

Can anymod change the name to Chinese/Lunar New Year. Saying "Asian New Year" is somewhat wrong, since not all Asians celebrate it.
If someone's gonna argue that my country is celebrating it, well it is, but only recently(like this year) since our President is of Chinese ancestry.
