My group recently started developing a system that is able through the data from MyAnimeList to output a list of suggested anime. Of course you need a MAL account for this.

I would be pleased if anyone wanted to try it, all it's needed is inputting a MAL nickname and it gives results. And give us some suggestions too if you find anything wrong or that could be made better.

Note that the algorithm refines the search every time a new nickname is added: the recommendations are based on the rankings people give to anime and it will search people with your same taste for then telling you what the people "of your kind" rate as real good. It's not just this simple actually, but it gives the idea.
As for now the database is pretty young, yet soon it will become far more precise than this.

Also, note that it can't recognize relationship between two seasons of the same series. And it can't read your mind, obviously.

lol, maybe its because of all those pokemon +movies and dragonball + movies I listed in my MAL, the results were animes that were for kids around age 7-10.

Interesting, I was recommended a hentai title (have no hentai on my list). Secondly, recommending me Detective Conan OVA 7 does not help at all considering the fact that I have not watched the first series. Other than that, the other recommendations are shows I've been meaning to watch.

I noticed that if I deviate from .5 for the error thing that the results are really screwed up. And if I go to 3.5, I get a lot of old anime even though I only have two from that period (Black Jack FTW). Might be because I rated them highly.

If I set it over 0 I get tons of crap.

At .5 is a heap of kids shows, when I don't even have (m?)any kids shows in my list. Set at 0 is some decent stuff, though.

Ghost Hunt- not sure about this one
Uta Kata OVA- Don't know anything about it
Saiunkoku Monogatari 2nd Season- What about the first season?
Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children: Complete- What is different from the original movie?
Aria the Origination- Own it, haven't opened it yet
Uta Kata- See OVA
Wolf's Rain OVA- got bored quickly with the tv series
NANA- read part of the manga, lost interest
Baccano!- been meaning to check this out as well

Unfortunately, I do not like any of the animes this generator has tried to suggest for me.

And even if it does suggest something for me that is good, it is suggesting things such as OVA's of series i already watched.

Unlike most people's, mine actually had positive results. But its maybe cause of having a very very short anime list.

Would be nice if you could filter suggestions so OVA's and movies don't come up.

Would be also nice to be filter genre suggestions. In my list, there is about 125 shows, and 0 of them contain any mecha ( Or yaoi for that matter ). Yet, I got suggested three mecha shows and one yaoi ..Needless to say, if something, it should have suggested yuri and not yaoi -_-.
