Hopefully there are enough members on here that we wouldn't have to worry about stuff like that - if people were to set up barbecues or pool nights - but it would probably be best to start with something anime-related (screening night or anime con) and see how well that works out, IMHO.
from my own experience, and since i've already done that on another forum, the best way to meet people would be to have a party at someone's house, play a game together (whatever, i don't care) or simply meet at a restaurant (which is the best imo).
having people with deep social incapacity won't make it work.
anyway, the shortest would be the best to avoid any boredom

in my case, it completely depends on where, when.
i know i'll be in san francisco in october, in germany in august ...
it's ok with me as long as it's not more than 1300 km away from my house

You're going to have to put an age limit also, I think.

What happened to the IRC party that was being planned?
The first IRC anime party was last week. It was just like before, some people couldn't make it, but at least we had about 5 people, which is okay since too many chatters spoil the discussion.

It would be really hard to arrange a real-life meet-up. Not many people are willing nor are able to travel great distances (even a couple of hundred miles across the U.S. or other continent) just to meet up for a couple of hours. I am pessimistic so I doubt it will be a great success if a meeting is organized on a regional basis. It's easier to meet up on IRC instead.

I went to a forum gathering of this kind last year in Amsterdam, and some people made it from the US and even Australia, so I think everything is possible....

Anyway, my offer still stands, and I think it would be a nice idea for summer....

hehe. I'm too poor to go to paris, but I'd definately say that the people in Europe should probubly hold the first get together in Paris. That'd be easy for everyone to find. The only problem would be once you were inside the city. Finding the actual party inside the city will be the trick at that point.

LOL. Yeah, been in those chat sessions before where there were lots of people chattering away and me getting eyestrain from trying to keep up. I'll have to take a look, then, to see if anyone had put up the log for the latest session; those were fun to read. Cheers.

IRC isn't really convenient in my case due to the timezone, workload and etc. Gotta put in those hours, or no money will be forthcoming, no? Otherwise, yes, it'd be fun to do every so often.

Face-to-face get-togethers would be possible as long as people are willing to do it. Wouldn't mind at all to go to one in Paris; be interesting, I would think.

If people go ahead, though, perhaps a blog thread can be opened with people writing their impressions in it? Maybe we can finally break the cone of silence surrounding NoSanninWa's gender, learn the secret behind Flash Squirrel's tail's fluffiness, and such.

You know, it would be easier to set up a AS forum at all the current conventions out there. From what I understand it isn't that hard at all. It could be a regular occurance then. Other online groups do the same... Then you can meet new people, meet people from the forums, and addict new fans..

That sounds like what Anime News Network did for Anime North. I would've went to meet them but I totally forgot about it.
