Comics!

The search option on this board's terrible.

So, anyway, I'm a comic geek. I was wondering if there were any other comic geeks here. And if there are, let's start geeking it up, because I haven't talked about comic books with someone on the internet in a long freakin' time.

I read practically every book that hits the shelves from DC and Marvel, and a couple of Indy books, so if you read anything, odds are I've at least heard of it.

Quite. The peak of comic book popularity was in the late Seventies and early Eighties. Since around Eighty-six, it's dropped gradually. It's been pretty steady these past couple years because of comic-to-movie franchises, and with around fifteen comic-related movies coming out next year, hopefully it'll increase.

I read Green Lantern, Avengers, Savage Dragon, Daredevil, and JSA.

Holy Jeez! 15 comic movies! That'll be expensive for me...

Rock!

I've been reading Green Lantern since I could read.

And I recently got back into Avengers and Daredevil. But I've been reading JSA since it launched. Johns is the mother of new comic book writers. Everything he touches is gold. And you'll be happy to know that he'll be writing Green Lantern sometime next year.

Just the alternate universe X-Men comic, "1602", with Neil Gaiman and the "JSA versus Avengers" crossover right now. I can't seem to locate backcopies of "Sandscape", so I'm missing a few issues. That's the list for now. Used to read the various X titles but not any more; my dad gave away all of my collection of comics that was at the homestead also ...

No one mentioned Rising Stars or Amazing Spider-man?
The current Superman/Batman makes for an interesting read as well...

1602 kicks ass! Pretty much anything Gaiman writes kicks ass...

And the JLA/Avengers crossover's freakin' wicked! It's supposed to play into a new Crisis coming in 2004, "Idenity Crisis", which is supposed to be an Earth-shattering DC event with lasting repercussions.

I loved Rising Stars, and Strac's latest run on Amazing's been incredible! Also, the relaunch of Spectacular with Jenkins and Ramos has been nothing short of perfect. They even made Doc Ock a cool villain.

And if you're liking the Superman/Batman series now, with McGuiness and Loeb, wait'll Micheal Turner starts drawing it. Holy shit, it's gonna' rock! I saw some sketches already. He puts Jim Lee's Batman to shame. And he's doing some Flash covers, too. They're great, and the series would benefit from him coming on as a full artist.

Sweetness. I like his stuff. Sadly, I haven't read any comics in a little over three months. When I'm at college I don't buy them, but the comic store guy at home keeps them on a shelf for me. So, when I get home from finals, I'm gonna have a fat stack of 'em!

Daredevil's been interesting lately. It's had some really out there art styles. Still good though, despite the fact I didn't really enjoy David Mack's run on it. I like Bendis though. He's half decent.

Avengers is good as always, though not as crazy (in a good way) as when Busiek/Perez were doing it.

Savage Dragon has been rather bleh, as of late. Larsen seems to be just doing a lot of weird homages and parodies...I'd like another good, decent, story arc to start. Though maybe in my 3 month absence something has.

Oh, and yes, JSA rules. My favorite characters are Sand and Dr. Fate.

Wowsers. That sounds interesting. The original Crisis on Infinite Earths was about as cool as you could get. It's great when you get to see so many characters interacting together in the same comic.

Yeah, I have a bin at my shop. I get a fat stack'a comics every week, so I work for credit.

And I loved Mack's first run, and his last couple issues were great, focusing only on Echo, not Daredevil. But Bendis will be back next month for the repercussions of his actions in Hardcore.

Yeah, but what Johns has done for every character is amazing. Especially Jack of Hearts.

I love me some Dr. Fate. Pick up the mini-series.

And Sand was a cool character from the start, and it was beautiful to see the way he went down, holding the entire planet together, even against Mordru's strongest magics.

I read all of them except for Elektra, because I didn't get into it right away, and Alias and Cage, because both books were cancelled.

But then, my list goes on and on.

I was reading "Wizard" earlier, and there was an article on, I think, "X-Men", which mentioned its #151 issue and its coverage of future (not sure if it's canon, though) events. Humans a near extinct species, cloned(?) soldiers fighting for the villian who looks like a white tiger that have mutant DNA spliced into them - it gave the example of Nightcrawler clones with Multiple Man and Cyclops DNAs - and a Phoenix egg. Very cool storyline and art.

There's also Marvel's new "Cosmic Wars" plotline that looked interesting also.

I forgot that I also read "Girl Genius" by Studio Foglio, but issues come every six months or so. It's about an alternate Earth with a steam-punk society. There are people with the Spark who are talented geniuses like Dr. Frankenstein and everyone else basically serve them. Great art, story is nice, but it taking months to come out sucks, IMHO.

Yeah, Morrison's final New X-Men storyline's supposed to be a future after Magneto wipes out most of humankind. And that white tiger dude is Beast.

Should be great. He's bringing back their original costumes.

Jack Zodiac would you by any chance know the titles of the 15 movies planned to premiere that are based on the comics? If you do can you list them?

And that's all I can remember right now.

check out http://www.comics2film.com/ if you want to know what's coming to theaters. Personally I used to love comics in the late 80's early 90's until they jacked the price up to over $3 per issue. It also pissed me off how gimicky comics were getting. Every week there was a new "#1 GOTTA GET IT IT'S GONNA BE THE NEXT BIG THING LIMITED EDITION HOLOGRAM FOIL COVERS A THROUGH F" So I kind of burned out on them. But I did go to one comic convention and got my X-Force Spider-man crossover (the one's that were printed sideways) signed by both McFarlene and Leifield, so that was pretty sweet.

Now i'm kind of getting back into them but I wont pay money for them. Except the new dreamwave Transformers G1 comics. Also I was always a big fan of the Maxx. I did notice that my local library seems to have a subcription to many of the popular marvel series I like so I can read up on all the old series I loved.
