Absolute defense only protect the pilot from outside threat. Should they fail, the pilot (normally) will still escape lethal injuries.

Meanwhile, life support does the job on internal organs and bodily function. And it was shown there's a limit into that function as well.

No insta-heal shtick either way. There's a reason of why Chifuyu and Tabane remarked Ichika's recovery as exceptional. (and it was implied Chifuyu had experience similar situation)

A trial to replace the Setsuna. Though I might still keep the multi-tier booster idea

Yajiri/war arrow(working name):
Realizing the need for a ranged weapon and Setsuna's part in their continued evolution, Byakushiki developed the Yajiri as a means of complimenting both purposes. It replaces the Setsura initially as a thick metal gauntlet but that's only on the outter guard, the hand itself is still relatively normal sized for an IS to act as a manipulator. The Yajiri fires arrows at speeds rivaling that of a railgun. Abnormally, these aren't normal arrows instead they are more like unfinished short swords. These arrows resemble handleless wakizashis but Byakushiki also stores other patterns of arrowheads for varying uses.

Hikari Gaeshi:
The swords fired by the Yajiri are actually beacons. Hikari Gaeshi is a short distance teleportation method developed by Byakushiki limited only to teleporting to the arrows fired by Yajiri. The arrows fired by Yajiri are normally wielded as physical blades after teleporting towards them.

Now, as for what replaces Setsura...

Origane:
An odd sword built purely on fold out armor. It is usually kept stored on the Yajiri as a sort of buckler. The blade can fold out into the size of the Yukihira and act as a one handed physical blade, it can also unfold into a massive two handed sword. The Origane is actually a composite blade made of a total of 5 smaller swords. Each blade as well as their various combined forms can generate the barrier void energy, either as a coating or a pure energy blade. Unlike the Yukihira, the Origane blades do not directly siphon energy from Byakushiki, instead they all have a set amount stored in them and slowly refill in standby in order to cope with Byakushiki's insufficient energy generation. The Origane is Byakushiki's attempts at improving the highly inefficient Yukihira niigata.

That fic progressing well, but now I have to make a convincing entry (either as prologue or a flashback) of the reason why he is all but alone. Choices are...

1. Has his flagship sunk before all his teammate can take off.
2. Managed to take of but has all of his friend get shot down merciless.

EDIT: Yeah I knew in canon Mobius have his own (noob) squadron, just saying.

Number two works better. Or you could have Ichika be separated from his original flight.

Worse that in the second scenario, it was Yellows who picked ISAF nuggets like grapes. Subverted that Ichika is no one to ask for revenge, and choose to chase over the bombers. The same goes when he attack the Erusian Oil Facility, but he fought and win against them as his skill develop over the course of the game.

Well, still the same. Usually I could take note from other writer's tech concept but wut, this time I should raise hand. Origane might be the exception, since ST use similar concept.

How about Ichika's plane was the first plane to take off and the rest of the flight's planes were still being prepped?

Or stick to canon. There are other fighters and his callsign is given to him there but Ichika did most of the work. Make it Ichika's first combat deployment. Fits the start of Four, backstory of Mobius One and Original Ichika if it's his first time.

You don't really need to change it much and you just need to add the extra fighters and such to it. I can help if you wanted to.
