this is a very emotional episode...

don't we just love tsutako-san for always saving the day...she knows how to get around awkward situations...

yoshino and rei are funny and nana looks pretty smart..it was just a bit difficult to find her in the party since she looks like noriko...

i'm voting for sachiko as the best character of the season because she comforts everyone...she became very sensitive of others feelings and i could almost forget how stubborn and selfish she was in the past seasons...

Spoiler for scene:

next ep seems to be a break from all the emotions conveyed by this episode...fun time at the ogasawara's...

Wow, what a great episode. Very, emotional is right. Yoshino and Rei having it out. Introducing Arima, and finally Yumi and Touko...

Spoiler for Some thoughts, with more coming up later...:

Looks like Nozomi Entertainment should include a box of Kleenex for this release.

Subs are out.

I think this episode was my favourite out of the season 4 eps so far. We finally have some movement on the souers front.

It was lovely seeing Touko regress in this episode, and be a bit cold and heartless. Which is something that I don't say a whole lot. But with Touko, like with Yumi with Sachiko, I think it wouldnt have been as meaningful if Touko had of accepted the rosary at that moment. Touko clearly doesn't want to be pitied or felt sorry for.

Yay! This is the Marimite I remember and enjoy. Character development for the win.

Oh, this episode is what I'd been waiting for this season. Thus far, I'd found the pacing of the story to be a bit off. It either whizzed past too fast, or it crawled. We've finally found a really nice compromise between the two.

I must admit that the Chinesis family is the one that keeps me hooked throughout the show, so I'll probably be focussing more on that than anything else. But I'll get the Foetida family out of the way now.

The confrontation with Rei and Yoshino was really nicely done in that we were almost expecting a huge blow-out over Nana, and yet it turned out to be a huge non-issue when push came to shove. Still kinda surreal hearing Nana speak, though.

The build up we've had over the start of the season has lead up to some really nice conflict with Touko and Yumi. We get to see both sides of the coin, but the characters themselves are restricted to only their perspectives. Now that we know Touko is going through some of her own inner conflict, plus her interpretation of Yumi only offering her the rosary out of pity, has Touko reverting to her old form of defence -- acting. And boy was it a doozy of a rebuff.

Normally such a sharp rejection would make you dislike Touko, but because we've seen how much Touko wants it, it just makes you empathise with the poor kid. Yumi's break down, and Sachiko's pain at how distraught Yumi is, was really done nicely.

Seiyuu were all superb. Kudos to Kugimiya Rie, Ueda Kana and Itou Miki for carrying those scenes.

BGM was perfect as always, and the cut shot of the rejection only showing Touko's mouth, then panning up to her narrowing eyes was just perfect.

All in all this episode deserves a 9/10. Very close to a perfect, but it just lacked that little bit extra to make it truly deserving of a ten.

Touko just went down quite a few notches in my book. I understand she has her own issues, and they are probably good reasons. However, her attitude, like in the past, never changes. She is unfriendly, and really undeserving of Yumi's affections. She was a little bit more likeable probably 2 episodes ago, but that is all gone now.

I really wish Yumi could have picked someone else... someone a lot more deserving.

Nana is just brilliant. I just really love her character. Her intelligence, eloquence, and insightfulness is really astounding. I think she makes a great addition to the show. Too bad she's not Yumi's potential petite soeur...

Sachiko really steals the show this episode. She is so understanding and caring. I would feel so warm in her arms.

Great episode. Now, I just wish they moved on from Touko (I know, that's not going to happen).

The last few scenes with Yumi have already been touched upon, but yeah very touching. Seeing Yumi cry is always upsetting.

I absolutely adore Touko as i've mentioned quite a few times already, and it's her development that i'm most interested in at the moment. This episode did a great way of handling it in a very quite manner, though that's soon to pick up in future episodes. We may see some of it next week, though doesn't look it from the preview. Yoshino looks adorable in the preview for episode 08. That attire is very much to my liking.

Ultimate shock of the episode, Kanako has ONLY JUST joined the basketball team?

I believe the fourth season has just been licenced, so for those waiting for subs, it may be best to just find the raws and try and interpret what you can from those.

Oh...and uh, get the series from RightStuf when it comes out. ^^;

ETA; It was a disclaimer so it wouldn't seem like I was encouraging people to forfeit the dvds. But oh well, I suppose I'll take my dose of retaliatory sarcasm and keep my trap shut in future.

Yes, we are very well aware of that, we're settling for raws, as the official license notice has been clearly pinned on last Thursday. Of course we're willing to buy it once the discs are released.

Thank you for informing.

Just watched the episode, and i must say even though i know how the story will end (having read loose translations of it in the web) the scene of Yumi and Sachiko at the end still brings water to eyes.

Touko's "acting" is superb in matters she deals with problems and such. It's kinda like how Sachiko uses Hysteria as an Armour. The series resident Tsundere character reverts back to her mean self to distance herself from showing her real feelings. I guess there is still a lot hurdles that Touko must overcome before she can remove her acting mask.

Next week it's party at Sachiko's. And for a home of one of Japans riches family with a very big mansion they still serve take-out Pizza. From what store? We have a good idea.

The scene between Yumi and Sachiko was really touching and beautiful, especially when Sachiko also started crying with Yumi. They are such great souers for each other. Sachiko is really awesome, and surely, Yumi greatly racked up my pity points. Touko, why must you be so mean to Yumi? T.T Even if you didn't want to be pitied, you could've have been more nice at least? But then again, it would't' be Touko otherwise. Yumi's timing was pretty horrible, though. I really didn't expect that to happen this episode, at least, not like that.

This episode made me rewatch the first episode of the first season again. You can really tell how much Sachiko have changed/grown from being a petit souer to becoming a souer herself, and how supportive and respectful she became from being rather childish.

It's getting to be a bit of a broken record, but this is another great episode of Marimite. An episode almost can't help being a winner when it combines excellent characterization with heartfelt emotion and solid dialogue. It seems like a very simple forumla to follow, but it's one that too many works fail to achieve. The one improvement that I can see for the show is that I wish that they went back to the whimsical previews that were in the earlier seasons. The practice of giving away plot points in the preview isn't one I'm fond of.

I also want to especially point out the great job Kugimiya Rie. I don't like many of her current roles/performances, but she's doing a knockout job bringing out the different facets of Touko's character.

No kidding. Marimite is turning into old reliable . I think that there are a number of other decent shows on right now, but this is heads and shoulders the best one out there. One mark of Marimite's strength is that it can deliver either the best drama or the best humor as the occasion demands.

Yumi misread the situation and her timing was all wrong as a result. There was no reasonable way for Touko to accept the offer until the issue vis a vis her running away had been resolved. It also didn't help that Yumi seemed to be completely wrapped up in Sachiko's decision to go to Lillian University above all else (it was what pushed Touko to leaving the party in the first place). Moreover, it's pretty obvious that Touko was inclined to agree - and probably would have at a different time.

She's far more entertaining as Yoshino's target though .

But she's only 179cm tall, and there's probably no one in her family who has any experience with basketball besides her father, the basketball coach, and her stepmother/sempai, the basketball player. With all these drawbacks, do you think it'd be easy for her to make the team?

True. Like the greenhouse red rose she pointed out in that first season, Sachiko has become one of those excellent rare anime heroines who develop to maturity, elegance and eloquence over time. This is a woman who does not flaunt or consume wealth but who seeks to become an authentic human being -- and succeeds.

One thing I was thinking about: I imagine even those fanboys in Japan watch this episode, and then shed manly tears and heartbroken with pity as they witness Yumi's tearful scene play out. It's like an emotional equivalent of a bunker-buster bomb -- devastating.
