Two twins, separated by fatal illness and a selective cure. Kasumi and her sister, Shizuku, were infected with the Medusa virus, which slowly turns the victim to stone. There is no cure, but of the two only Kasumi is selected to go into a sort of cryogenically frozen state along with 159 others until a cure is found. At some point in the undetermined future, Kasumi awakens to find herself and others who were in suspended animation in an unfamiliar world with violent monsters. Resolving to unlock the mysteries of her current situation and the fate of her twin sister, Kasumi struggles to survive in a treacherous world.

Just read 2 chapters, it seems kind of Jurassic Park-esque, but the disease makes it a lot more interesting.

no, it's a relatively short series, 6 tankobons. I like it, though it reminds me heavily of Blue Gender, which has almost parallel story to it

The plot looks kinda interesting. But how's it really like? That girl can fight the monsters or what? It looks pretty old though...

Without giving to much away, the initial hook is the same. Fatal illness only some of them get, deeps sleep till the cure, awakening to find the waolrd overrun with critters and wildlife etc etc etc.

Not saying it's bad, because it isnt. I enhoyed it a great deal, but the similarities are there. some of them are just to obvious as well.

I just started reading this series and I'm really enjoying it. I really like those kinds of end-of-the-world/apocalyptic type of stories. Not looking for spoilers but just tell me this, does the ending have a kind of rushed feeling? Like where there's still a bunch of things left unanswered or unexplained?

No, I get the feeling that the ending ist quite well explained. But it seems that there is little left of the horror athmosphere. It goes into Sci-Fi territory, with Zeus trying to control the Medusa.

But it is a definite closure.

sounds like one of those where it turns out that the virus they got actually turns humans into monsters and the monsters are actually humans. then she finds out the monster queen/king is her sis.......

or maybe the sis was the one who brought these monsters to earth and she'll turn her sis around to banish/kill all the monster?

Close, but not quite: Medusa is the virus, it only befalls people with weak determination, because it was too thinly spread out in the world.

In the long run, it can incorporate the dreams of its victims, without killing the host, but Zeus uses the sister of the protagonist and turns her into an ever-dreaming monstrosity that dreams and produces monsters out of desperation.

Why ist it so desperate? Well...her sister suspects it is because she felt betrayed when the protagonist was chosen for survival. But maybe it is something different...:P

But that would be a too cruel of a revelation, even in the spoiler tag. Kind of "Sixth Sense"...

I would say, final score-8/10

It was quite interesting and a thrilling ride throughout, but the end left me kind of hanging...
Zeus was disappointing at the end...

Yeah, I know this is old stuff, but I just finished reading this pretty awesome survival horror/scifi manga. One thing's been niggling me:

At the very end, Kasumi mentions that she realizes what the thorns mean. What exactly do the thorns represent? I never understood the significance of them only growing where there aren't people around.

And btw, why does Shizuku have bandages around her neck at the very end? Or was that actually the original Kasumi's body?

I'm really excited about the movie. Anyone else?

That was the body of the original dead Shizuku. The one who attempted suicide in the bathroom. And the room who went over the cliff to her death.
