I have a question. I just finished masking a pic and was about to extract the img. But when I was trying to, it was taking the BG together with it instead of just the character itself. I thought I brushed it somewhere but no I didn't. Everytime I press Q, it was suppose to highlight the part that was brushed...but it was highlighting the entire thing What do I do?

There's only one layer. Oh btw, that's after I exit quick masking and has (or was suppose to have) marching lines around the brushed img.

Hmm I'm back again

Only this time I'm just going to show you how to icons like these

First of all you might want to read my other icon tut first Icon with Decorations .

Now select your desired image you'd like to practise on with this tut. I chose Hanyuu out of this picture.

Crop it and Sharpen it *hint- I usually go Filter-Sharpen-Unsharpen Mask-Raidus 0.5-Threshold 2*

Once doing this you should have something around like this.

Now duplicate that layer.

After duplicating the first layer put the second layer on colour burn and reduce it's opacity to around 23-60% or what ever suits your fancy.

It should now look like this

New layer and fill it with the colour of the characters hair. Set to Exclusion and reduce the opacity to around 9%

Now here comes the part where you add icon textures. I usually find my textures at DevianArt or colourfilter.

Examples:

I'm going to using this one

And then copy that and paste it onto a new layer where your working on your icon. Select the blending mode to Lighten and IF sometimes it doesn't work out reduce the opacity.

Now you should have something like this.

And you're done!

But I'd like to use my other tut while doing these icons and I get.

I'm sorry if this doesn't really make sense to you *Sweet desu~ is feeling really ill*

So I wish you all the best of luck with this tut

Here is a tutorial I found about the sillhoutte images. This is really helpful for anyone that wants to make an ipod avatar.

PSP X tutorial (option 1 only works on GIMP)

Quote:
This might be a bad tutorial cause I spent forever trying to look for a good image...and I honestly forgot how I made the Reina one so...nice o_O.

Requested by kimi.

Maki-san's Graphics Tutorial: 01: Silhouette

Program: PSP X (10)
Difficulty: Depends on how well you follow directions. Needs basic knowledge of the program. Must know where tools are as it will take way too long for me to have to explain each step with extra steps.

Going from this:

To this:

or

Bonus:

----------------------------------------------

(Images in this tutorial has been resized for your and my convience, so please do not resize anything on your own until indicated)

STEP ONE:
Open up your base image. Duplicate base once (twice if you'd like to create option #2).

STEP TWO:
Duplicate your top layer and set blend mode to multiply. Merge down.

STEP THREE:
Go under adjust > brightness and contrast > threshold... and enter "238" for "Threshold:"

STEP FOUR:
Create a new raster layer and start coloring in the white spots within your silhouette with a regular brush (whatever size you're comfortable with) set to the color black. Merge down when you're done.

STEP FIVE:
Click on the eye of your first layer to hide it. Select the layer below it. Go under adjust > brightness and contrast > threshold... and enter "163" for "Threshold:"

STEP SIX:
Go back to your top layer and click on the eye, making it visible again. Now carefully erase your top layer where I've circled (you may lower its opacity to see where you're going). When you have done so, merge down.

If you just want to settle with option #1, you may stop here and resize your silhouette by 50% or lower (lower you go, smoother edges). Please continue onto the next step for option #2.

STEP SEVEN:
Click on the eye of your top layer to hide it. Now select the layer below it (original base layer). Go under adjust > add/remove noise > edge preserving smooth... and enter "22" for "Amount of smoothing".

STEP EIGHT:
Go under effects > edge effects > find all.

STEP NINE:
Click on the eye of your top layer to make it visible again. Drag your base to the top (now it's the top layer). Set its blend mode to difference. Go under image > negative image.

STEP TEN:
Take any soft brush and start erasing over the facial area until you have something like the example below.

Resize image by 50% or lower.

YOU'RE DONE~!

Silhouette tips:
It's best to use an image with a perfectly white background (or some other solid color, but I've never tried that). Also, having things too funky would not be good (like someone with crazy hair). It's good to have pictures where the main subject has a clean outline to them (or it). For smoother edges in your finished product, resizing it to something smaller helps, or you can try erasing the sharp edges off. There are many tricks to this stuff, just find something you're comfortable with.

BONUS:

Maki-san's Icon Tutorial: 04: iPod Style Icon

Program: PSP X (10)
Difficulty: Not difficult. Requires basic knowledge.

Going from this:

(or option #1 of the previous tutorial, but I'll be using #2)

To this:

COMING SOON!

Hmm... Do you save it in the same directory as the .mkv file, with the same name?

What are you talking about Shana?
My guess is that he typed the path to the file wrong.

Could you paste the script here so we can check if you made a typo?

It took me like 3 times to fix my own typos the first time...

Right well now it seems to find the file or object but says the format is not supported

heres the script anyway

DirectShowSource("C:\Downloads\[KAA]_Love_Hina_01-24.DVD(Complete)\Love_Hina_01[v2].DVD(H264.AAC)[KAA][9FFC00A6].mkv")

I do think I'm just missing something very obvious, or may just be doing it wrong but whatever it is it totally escapes me

The script looks fine to me.

Have you saved the script as a .avs ?
After saving it, you drag the script in to Virtual dub. If that still doesn't work
remux the file with mkvtoolnix and only keep the video stream. Remove the sub and audio from it.

A while ago i had a problem with some files myself to. I made this thread. Perhaps it has some useful information for you.
http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?t=50200
The remuxing worked for me.

Also try test a other mkv/mp4 file and see if it works.

Can you open regular .avi files?
Just in case you're missing something very obvious.

How come some of my options are grey and i'm unable to select them?

For example all options at filter -> distort except flare correction, smart blur, filter -> artistic etc etc

1) have you selected your layer?
2) is there anything in your layer (in other words dont select an empty layer)
3) is it locked? (meaning that it is a background) ~ in this case just duplicate the layer and delete the one below

hrrm, thing is, i'm following this tutorial:
http://forums.animesuki.com/showpost.php?p=992566
And it says nothing about adding a new layer. Just "go to distort and select wave".

I don't know much about using layers.
