Here's what I have. Our taste in "happy" might differ but I'll do the best I can.
For happy J Pop songs I generally listen to ClariS, they're really amazing and their songs have a positive upbeat feel to them. I'm a huge if not biggest fan of their music, so here's a couple of their songs and tell me what you think. Spoiler for ClariS:
There's also Hirata Shihoko if you're also interested. Spoiler for Hirata Shihoko:

Well, you can try this, it certainly brightens my day up.
Brand New Smile by Takagaki Ayahi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrBMhlwo544 I think the title alone is happy enough, heh. |

You might like the opening to Nodame Cantabile ("Allegro Cantabile" by Suemitsu & the Suemith):
You may also like "Kokuhaku" by Angela Aki. Most of her music is rather sad, but this is one of her happier songs. Not quite as upbeat as what you have posted, but perhaps worth a listen. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k4d32u6W9nHclb39zha Sorry that it's a Dailymotion video - all the decent quality ones on YT have been pulled by her record label, so this is the best I can do. Edit: I've been watching Cross Game, and the fourth ending ("Rehearsal" by Natsuko Kondo) is a nice, upbeat song. Last edited by jte742; 2012-08-20 at 15:35. |

I'll agree w/ClariS, and for some other artists/songs maybe Natsuko Aso, Yui Sakakibara, Touyama Nao, or Sphere?(Ayi, Ayahi, Haruka, and Minako's group) I put 3 songs for each of them in the spoilers, I think most of these should fit, hopefully you like some of them at least, all the ones here I definitely consider happy catchy songs

'Was going to recommend Angela Aki's Kokuhaku too after hearing it from Uchuu Kyoudai.
![]() Also thirding ClariS because OreImo (lol). Anyway, the three-persons band Ikimonogakari does pop rock. They've been growing more and more popular recently; they even made Japan's recent Olympic theme. The mood of their songs, like many J-pop artists, have a pretty wide range, many sugary enough for your request. Like Angela Aki their music videos have also been largely pulled from Youtube, so I had to use some lives. Samples: Spoiler for Space:
____ Less related to your actual request, but since you have the Beatles all over you, let me say that the closest Japanese band to match the Beatles in musical glory has to be The Pillows. Too bad they're ass-kicking rockers, not happy go lucky pop stars.

If you like the Beatles, you'll love The Brilliant Green. Their music is heavily influenced by the Beatles.
Here's one of their most cheery songs: A nice little live performance: Perhaps my favorite song from them (it's entirely in English!): Last edited by kaitanuva; 2012-08-20 at 21:26. |
