If you didn't want to be at the pool in the first place then you'd definitely get bored.

But still, It kinda felt weird for Ichika to be that grounded. For a teenager, when they're first asked, wouldn't they want to try their hand at ranged combat? A gun? He just listened to Chifuyu spew specifics and he's already quivering in his boots. I thought the more normal teenager response would be like "Right right, so where's the things that go boom?"

No, I'm pretty sure they'd still want a gun. Impractical as it may be. Like of guns isn't restricted to Americans I'm sure. Just as love of katanas aren't limited to Japan.

Did you forget that Ichika was raised in an anti-gun society? Japan has a real hard on for gun control and even Yakuza and Cops rarely use guns. Sword art online shows this: One character goes to a psychiatrist because she feels traumatized for shooting someone in self-defense. But because they're psychiatrists in Japan, they blame her and look at her badly for DEFENDING HERSELF and another person by simole virtue that she had to use a gun to do it.

Hell, they're so traumatized by their own sin that if you speak anything WWII related to anyone above 40, they'll either froze or break down.

Their navy even lacked long distance offensive power because they're afraid, Modern Japanese people, except the militaristic right winger, is AFRAID of firepower.

It could just be that he prefers swords: Many shounen protags adhere to using seords and melee weapons where a gun would be infinitely better. Might as well ask yourself why no one on Harry Potter ever thought to use a shotgun on Voldemort. Many fanfics mock the fact that no one ever thought how useful even a flintlock pistol would be.

Ichika is also quite rational for asking (as opposed of begging or demanding), that's not how a hardcore Japanese think, that's how IDEAL Japanese works.

Admittedly swords are not exactly pragmatic but....

Because Gunfight are kind of cowardly compared to Melee weapon? I mean with Melee weapons, it take real guts to rush toward the enemies wielding guns than having a gun yourself.

Also, Gun just feel kind of emotionally and literally distanced, it is more suited for heroes who don't give a damn while Melee Weapons(especially fist) give the feeling of Up-close-and-personal.

Punching your greatest enemy in the face is kind of like a more physical expression of "F@ck you!". (Try dubbing that every time a hero punch his archenemies. It feel satisfying especially if the enemy deserved it )

while shooting your enemies have the feeling of: "......"
It is as if you are treating them like normal mook. It doesn't work when they had slaughtered everybody you loved, rape babies and do all the evilly thingy.

To summarize, melee weapon fit into idealistic Shounen Hero's personality better than gun which fit pragmatic Dark Heroes like Kiritsu better

Basiaclly linking up with a core means sharing processing and energy generation. But the reuirement is that Ichika can't be more than 5 meters away from the linked unit... So...

"Ichika-san. Why are you so close to LingYin-san?".

"Yes, Ichika. Please. Tell us."

"As my bride you better have a good explanation."

"I'm listening as well."

"Uh, it's because I need to sty within 5 meters of her or else my core link will break. She's the best person for me to link up with while maintaining formation."

"What about me, we can fight the enemy in tandem! Our OOA's are matched to compliment each other as well!"

"No, he is my bride so he should link with me. Besides, his particle cannon can be used to bombard the opponent so he should stay with a siege type like me."

Ichika: "Using the theory of energy maneuvering means designing an aircraft that takes advantage of power to help in the maneuvering of the aircraft."

Josh: "Now let put this in practice, here's White Knight, Silver Gospel, and ByakuShiki. Look at their profile and then compare"

Ichika: "White Knight has the least drag force applied on it's frame due to it's small size"

Josh: "Yep, it's Thrust/Weight ratio is at best mediocre, but it's drag ratio is far smaller. During maneuver, you can see Gospel hold an edge due to vectored thrust, but I could beat it in a chase because I lose less energy"

Josh: "Now Ichika, your signature technique so far is zig zagging maneuver into CQC range, which is possible thanks to brute force provided by your system. But to put it simply, it's a waste of power. If you can use more efficient combat maneuver, that amount of raw thrust will be one of your greatest assets, you realize this after your second shift, don't you?"

Ichika: "Yes, I figure that using drag to slightly alter my trajectory during a charge, as opposed to repeated braking and accelerating gave less burden on my frame. However, I also figure that it's only effective assuming my target can't attack from different vector... naturally I had to pay extra awareness"

Josh: "Yep, and our goal is to accomplish that, are you ready?"
