... you don't know how many brains you'd fry with a question like that... Briareos is MUCH too cool for Ichika...

You can put Ichika into a full cybernetic/android body if you want to, but don't make the comparison to Briareos please.

What if male OC is IS?

To find out the real reason behind the number of IS cores, one must first answer this question:
What happen to other researchers working on IS?

Answer: They are dead and their mind are uploaded into IS core to function as their AI. To prevent them from remembering their lives as humans (and probably go insane with the resolution), she installed something called a Personality Inhibitor Chip which trap them in a dream.

They think that they are going on with their usual life (doing IS research). The IS research in the dream-world are actually Second Shift for the IS.

How they got there:
1. Tabane kill them all (can't think of a good reason why....probably because she want a really good IS AI?)

2. They got killed (by military trying to get their hand on IS technology) and Tabane merely "recycle" them.

3. They did it willingly to advance the IS project.

Edit: The (joke) reason why IS core don't accept Male Pilots: The Mind uploaded are all heterosexual males.... except for Byakushiki of course who happened to be female.

Alternative:
Just some under-table IS improving project that involve uploading people's brain into the IS to improve its performance.

Personally, I think it is not as interesting as the first one but still work

What do you think? Which of the three option is better? Or should I just go for all above?

Edit: Probably for LOL and giggle: The fake Ichika during the World Purge story....IS actually a real person. Well.... technically an Infinite Stratos AI but needless to say, he (once) existed (doesn't look like Ichika though).

@ agetreme - For option #1, can say that Tabane was fed up with the 'help' they were offering and killed them to give the IS cores the 'final push' into evolving into what she wanted them to be.

Tabane: "Ha~ah, you're all so useless~ I could have finished this project two months ago if it wasn't for you. Still, it takes a long time to finish up an IS core the old way. But at least this way, you're useful to a genius like me. You can be happy about that, right? The next batch of Cores will all be from you guys. ***grins***

Kinda adds a creepy, psycho factor to her, doesn't it?

@ Fire - Don't worry about who's 'cooler' to put in that 'spot'. Deunan Knute would most likely be Laura or Tatenashi TBH. Everyone else is too specialized and untrained to perform military maneuvers without suspension of belief. EDIT: I left out the obvious Orimura since they are a given.

Added Psycho factor? As if she didn't have one already? I'd say tabane has "eliminated" quite a few people without any rhyme or reason already, so a few more kills for her is mindless.

On the other hand, may be the Researchers were pressured by the Government after the White Knight incident.

1. To get Tabane to make more IS cores (which Tabane is unwilling due to the difficulty in programing the AI.... which explain why Tabane spent so much time in Core 001 while not so much for other IS cores.)

2. To steal IS data from Tabane and sell to the Government. So they pretend to wanting to help her out (they underestimated Tabane) and Tabane make them "helping her out" in the production of the IS cores.

The canon story didn't explain so I would like to assume the worse.

EDIT: I mean seriously, the last time we see them work on it they were still at the powered astronaut wear stage and Tabane was promising the government all sorts of holographic crap. Can you blame them?

Though with this line of reasoning, I found a new problem:

Why didn't anybody suspect anything? I mean it is not like 467 people would vanish into a thin air suddenly and Tabane magic-ed 467 IS core out of nowhere.

May be Tabane deliberately spare some people (there are actually 500 people working there) or add more people (who are not involved in the experiment).

Then again, it might because people in IS-verse are that dense and stupid or the government are trying to cover up something.

I wouldn't think all of them stayed for the plug pulling. It could've started 500 then lost at a rising rate for every year of seeing how screwed they were for the deadline. Plus we don't know how many people actually worked on the prpject unless Izuru started dropping numbers without me knowing again.

Before one should ask about the reason for the number of IS core (467 seemed kind of random and out of nowhere), one should ask one question:

"What happen to the other Researcher working on the project?"

I am trying to work on the major plot hole to my answer.

500 is just an arbitrary number I made up though. For this case more like plugged in.
