A technique you can use is to get an actual photograph and model the pose you want for the characters.

Body positioning is hard to do without models.

Some Doujin creators use Cosplayers in various poses and the garb, its expnsive to do if you not in Japan where cosplaying is almost "normal".

Nah... just scale and duplicate printouts of the actual download images from the websites to catch the feeling of the characters and their lines. Where the lines are hard, soft, etc.

Then once you master that, you can start doing your own fan art using pictures of regular people and poses, as models.

At least thats what I was taught.

I can say this from experience, nothing is harder to do that fan/doujin related work... because people are incredibly critical more so than if you do totally original characters, back storys and mangas

Fans... are brutal.

Word of advice... keep at it dilligently... however, be careful that you don't forget to create your own style and individuality.

Uh, Fuura here is basically quoting or paraphrasing Senjougahara, "You've realized it, haven't you? I have no weight," "Based on my body type, I should be 40 kilos, but in reality I weigh 5," "It happened in middle school, before I entered high school," "I encountered a crab," etc. Then the conversation starts to become different... if my uber dictionary skills serve me, Itoshiki-sensei is saying he wants to help Fuura out of pity, and instead she goes off on one of her optimistic bright-side-of-things speeches, saying how girls like weighing less anyway, and how she can almost fly, being so light.
