Ladies and Gentlemen, to celebrate the 200th post in this Jigoku Shoujo Thread it's my great pleasure to present to you flood loads of Enma Ai. We all will go to hell for her cuteness anyway, so enjoy.

Basically this series is a complete waste of a potentially intriguing story -- it is lazy, boring and ridiculously monotonous, plagued by moronic one-dimensional characters. And for the main storyline, you will find it is nothing more than a background decoration that has no bearing to almost all of the main story.
Zero merit and a grade of F except maybe 2-3 episodes. And yes it is just one your-fucked-up- gradeschooler revenge porno (yes, not even highschool) If you are still not quite into it, this forgettable series will be the one you really wanna skip, except you have an IQ less than 10 years old's. |

I Hate Critics
Ok, I will admit Hell Girl has some SERIOUS faults. but, I, for one like the creepy feeling it has, and the many different little stories are a nice break from the other animes where if you don't watch every ep, you havent a clue as to what is going on. .
Hell Girl, I think, is more about the art. Soemthing Like " le protrati de petit Cossett". I will admit that it would have been better if they had made Hell Girl a movie, but ah well. try to look at the art. There is MUCH more to an anime then the characters and storyline. That is all in the writing, and the script. the art work is what makes this anime. If you look at the repitition, it really gives you an opportunity to appericate the subtle changes that appear from show to show, that you would otherwise miss. I do hate to do this.Is seemes so.. review-y. However, I hate a one sided arguement. |

Let you know one secret: I love Pokemon. Everytime I hear people yelling "Man, pokemon is for kids!" I tell them this: look at how fucking cute those little creatures are! Each time Pikachu mutters "pika! pika!" with all its conjurable tenderness and flies into Satoshi's embrace, my tears will uncontrollably roll in my eyes -- I realize humanity finds its true essence in that moment, and friendship the most precise expression! Like the golden drops of sun in the early spring, the voice of Pikachu melts away the winter in my heart, and then... I dont need my prozac anymore! And for those who got schools and jobs, I think yeah, we need to take a break from, eh, "other animes"....... by watching another anime! Man, that's the next best thing I believe since God (come on, let's assume there's one so we can leave a room for the concepts like Hell and Heaven... just for the sake of Enma Ai) creates Sunday. Halleluja! Thanx, my dear Virago -- with people like you, who needs a punchbag? |

Art or animation, however, does not make or break anime series. What congeals them to be good or bad is their plot, characterization, and story. There are a lot of bad anime out there with decent, if not great art - like Bakuretsu Tenshi, for example. It still failed as an anime because despite its art, it had a very weak storyline and plot; it also had ugly characterization.
Next, Mushishi similarly is episodic. It is altogether also 'somewhat different' from most anime (in that it is episodic and for mature audiences [the children will be bored]). However, many agree that it is among the best anime of 2005: some even go to the extent of deeming it among the best anime of all time. Why? Because although it has mediocre art, its plot, characters, and storyline are stunning. It then stands, towering above others, as a great anime. It's easy to animate well. Disney can do that easily, and a bunch of diligent animators can make any anime excellently drawn. The story, the plot, and the script is different, though. Not anyone can pull off a great story, and not just anyone can do it in anime.

Just one not-so-irrelevant comment and one suggestion:
not-so-irrelevant comment: the background of mushishi actually is exceptionally well done. I know it is a moot point, but when I watch it on HDTV version, it is very unbelievable since prolly ep. 10 and on. Not only it applies the traditional East Asian painting style, but it adds depth to it when necessary. suggestion: please, please, don't compare mushishi with Jigoku Shoujo. Mushishi is NOT a pedophilic Moe crap afterall, nor uniform fetish, nor gradeschool sexual frustration.... |

(1) I can't see that properly with a 15-inch screen, sorry. I deem it mediocre - but that's for people to decide on if they deem it excellent or majestic.
(2) That was to disprove his or her point that Jigoku Shoujo has something special. Anyway, Mushishi is an excellent anime. Although we may not agree on the animation quality, we still should agree that it is among the best anime without question.

it is one thing to draw well. Art is another thing all together.
FYI, i am a she. Virago is french meaning a female dragon. Dell is derived from Dragon lady. D.L= Dell. but you didnt know that, and I wouldent expect one's french to extend to something that obscure P.S - jigoku Shoujo does have something special. all artwork does, if you look for it. Yes, even Pokemon. Last edited by Dell Virago; 2006-02-27 at 00:47. |

I had a guess that you were a girl. Honestly.
I don't go forward with inferences because if you were a guy, you'd probably be offended (I think). I knew the word virago because Penguin (the publishers) had a series of novels written by women from different countries in the world - of course, all were well-known within their countries and were celebrities there. It was called Virago Modern Classics, so I had a hunch that you were a girl. I did not know that a virago was a female dragon. I only knew that it hinted of a girl. I admit Jigoku Shoujo has something special. Everything does, right? I stand corrected, then. I respect your opinion, which is why I have not been flaming you in my ripostes. This is an intellctual discourse.

Hellgirl got damned by her own potential..... it *could* have been as noteworthy as a Twilight Zone (original) series. It *could* have been kind of an anti-Constantine. But it was obviously too easy to fall into a formulaic rut rather than progress the meta-story about Hell Girl, her companions, and just what the hell was going on and what are the mortals aware of her going to do. Instead we got the "easy stories" ... don't people suck, but the ones who think they suck also suck --- all to hell, don't pass go.
But she does make an demonically moe poster girl

I don't watch it a lot. I love watching Spongebong Hemppants, though. He rocks.
Wow. That's great, Dell. You study ... while here I am having a hard time not studying. To be back on topic ... the show is ... well ... ah ... uh ... plotless?
