-Haman : by far the best female pilot in gundam and good with many other things, too
-Katejina : victory would have been boring without her
-Marvet : hail the only dark skinned woman who kicked butt in gundam (or all mecha anime?)

#1 Period: Char Aznable.

Not only the greatest Gundam character ever... But the best villain/rival in anime history! It's hard not to completely love and adore Char Aznable.

Beyond that... Rau Le Creuset, just because he has a brilliant and well written background. That whole experimentation thing was written better than the series.

Third is a hard placement... I'll go with Shiro Amada. He's hard not to like because of the fact that he has a meltdown at the end of the series and professes his love for his woman right in front of her guardian, who later dies (by his hand?). In the middle of battle after ripping his own GM(G)'s arm off and whacking him with it, while his teammates laugh themselves to death along with the audience.

How can you not think that's priceless?

Best character to me is Kira, Athrun, Yzak, Lacus, Rey, Gilbert, Rau, Cagalli, Meyrin, Andrew, Talia, Murrue and Mwu.

I don't know whether they're the best or not. Actually I just like them.

really? I think Rau was one of the worst written villains in Gundam history. I mean sure he started out great being all enigmatic and all that. But in the end when it turned out he was just batshit nuts I don't think he comes even close to being 'brilliant' or 'well written.'

Agreed, I was also disappointed at how they just threw Mwu and Rau's rivalry out the window in favor of Kira having a climatic battle with the only worthy ace pilot on the other side.

Anyway, my most recent Gundam favourite character would be Allelujah from Gundam 00.

At first I hated him, because he's got the dumbest name in all of anime history: Allelujah Haptism (and a split personality called HAllelujah, give me a break).
But his voice really grew on me, all calm and gentle. Then all of a sudden at the end of Episode 25, when both his personalities merged he totally won my heart over.

I was really surprised at how the voice actor managed to portray three different versions of Allelujah. The usual calm and gentle one. The blood thirsty Hallelujah. And finally a calculative and intimidating merger of the two.

I really hope the merger's personality is still present in season 2, he was awesome.

But i like Graham and Char the most coz they don't pilot a gundam and still posed a threat to those gundam pilot with their incredible piloting skills.
