I may have to relearn my grammar after this, I don't know almost all of this . As a start, let me ask:

Why is Maou three syllable's? isn't the 'ou' in Maou not separate syllables? cmiiw, it's called the 'long o', often written with a dash above the o. Same thing with 'uu' in Yuusha.

Also, 'Demon King' four? De-Mo-N King, is that right? Seems strange if we leave out 'n' alone but not 'ng'.

I have to admit, this anime thus far has turned out way different than I had thought it would. My first exposure to it was in the Laugh a Day thread, with a manga post involving the Hero lying in bed with two other girls at his sides and arguing over him.

Needless to say, I made... assumptions. But so far, it's been a pleasant surprise.

Incorrect, that would be "oo" as in "Oosaka".

What are the differences between "Maou", "Maoh", "Ohsaka" and "Ousaka" then, in terms of the syllables?

It's Oosaka, not Ousaka.

Maou = まおう
Oosaka = おおさか -> お-さか

Also bear in mind that different romanization schemes treat vowels differently. It's hard to be sure what's going on without knowing the kana readings for the words involved.

If this sounds like going in circles, well sometimes it is. It's much easier to read a Japanese phrase when you already know what it means

Isn't it easier to pronounce "ou" as the one syllable "oh"
Ma + ou => 2 syllables

Technically speaking the o and u are two syllables here.

But it's a technical issue raised to avoid the practical issue of concern: Namely, in practice, the sound おう has the length of a diphthong and needs to be treated as such when dubbed (Tokyo is technically a 4 syllable word for the same reason Maou is 3). Hence, Demon King/Queen does not work.

Hero was really keen on having his party.
Also keen on showing his friend that demons and humans can live in peace.
Maou was having an adventure of her own.
Knight was being weird again...
I really don't get what's up with her.
The church and the whole potatoes thing is ridicules.

It's both. Kō Ōtani's name (a composer) can also be written "Kou Ootani".

I don't think that mouth animation is so tightly related to syllables as it is to the actual practical pronunciation. And all these words are pronounced in the same way. So, if the mouth moves twice, then the dub should use a word for a mouth that moved twice.

______

Really good episode this week, possibly the best so far. Things are getting very complicated. What can Hero possibly do without Maou?

Was it really safe to tell the merchant all of that. Hope the sisters don't get hurt. So the Maou knew the Yuusha's friend, though it was weird that there were 3 of them in 1 body. So the Maou might not return as herself, does that mean the older maou's take over her body?

It's not both. While some romanization difference might put ō for both おお and おう, they are technically different things. It's just that Kanto people say them the same way for convenience. For language "purists" and those around Kyoto, they're two different pronunciations.

Her first deal with him (where she strongly hinted she wanted to open trade with the demons) and something the anime skipped had him figure out she was a demon by that point.
Spoiler for what was skipped:

Knight pretty much solved the who's the wife issue by makeing them both Hero's wife contracted property.

The church is starting to feel the sting of loosing thier grip on the Southern kingdoms. An ill wind is blowing and frictions are starting to build. Those in power seldomly willingly give it up. In time such as these all that is needed is the right spark to change the world.

Things really went to hell in a hurry. I think trusting the merchant was alright. They've come this far and if things went bad the Hero could just teleport the guy to death. Actually I was wondering if that was what he was trying to do in the first place .

Hopefully things go as smoothly as possible with this plan. I feel like that Older Sister's life just keeps getting more dangerous.

Bad news all over. Will have to see how everyone gets through this.

Congratulations Hero, you got two wives contract partners.

Looks like all that foreshadowing about the anti-demon conservative cardinal becoming the new Pope did have an impact when he declares Crimson Scholar a Heretic and her teachings and crops blasphemous.
