I think we all feared Kawamori would troll us in some form in the end. And I must say, leaving it unresolved for sequels is the most inoffensive of the bad things he could have done, really. Killing Sheryl ( or the others ) or leaving her uncured or giving us an Ranka X Alto ending would have been much worse.

Agreed. I was anticipating a troll, and the unresolved love triangle is the least of my worries. That, plus a promise of a movie compensated somewhat the letdown of not seeing Sheryl win. At least we'll see more of her in the sequel.

It could go either way:

A Macross Plus: Movie Edition where slight changes are made with the addition of new scenes.

A Macross Seven: The Galaxy is Calling Me where the story is continued.

I'm hoping it's the latter.
