Sigh.
Two things are becoming rather clear to me: 1: Taiwan is driving this contest 2: Taiwan has not yet been exposed to enough Madoka Magica. (Seriously the breakdown by country is fascinating). Conclusion: We need some Cantonese subs. (I actually went and googled it, I couldn't find any Cantonese subs for Madoka, I'm surprised since I have occasionally seen them for other shows, and I thought I even saw some for Madoka episode 1 a while back.) Annoyingly enough I do know someone who loves Cantonese and is fluent enough to translate- but he'd never touch a Magical Girl anime with a 10 foot pole. (He doesn't like any anime).

Quite a few results that caught me off guard this time. A lot of them were relatively close matches that just didn't go my way. It's nice to see Mikuru and Nymph managed to win their matches. I previously reduced the ranking of Kuoroko, Lingyin, Ui and Yami becuase they all came from the same group with similar performances and underperformed. Turns out it was a big mistake. They really were as strong as I originally thought and it lets Yami beat Shouko. I'm surprised Seraphim managed to beat Fate. I didn't think they were too far apart but I expected Fate to come through if the match turned out to be close. I overestimated how much Mafuyu had fallen by. She manages to retain enough strength to beat Shiina. Homura ends up doing quite well against Nadeko. She didn't get close to winning, but she still made it a fair bit closer than I thought she would.

Well, there were a few surprises... for me at least.
But, at the end of the day, as long as a select few (and most importantly a certain demi-goddess) keep winning...

How does Fate lose to Seraphim? I would have guess it would be a close match, but I was expecting it to tilt to Fate rather than Seraphim. It is understood that there is Prelim 3, but I seriously doubt she can make it there despite her strength. And here, I thought Homura and Merry are going to pull one, but they did not even come close as to denting Nadeko and Ikaros respectively. I seriously doubt they will make it in Prelim 3 as well.

The latest Zombie episode might've helped Seraphim a bit. You can tell how much a character-focused episode can impact votes just by looking at Homura.
And also, to put bluntly what melange said, Fate is dead- *shot*

Why is Fate sucking?
Simple. 1. She already won a tiara. 2. Her series (plural) are from 4-7 years ago. I generally find that newer voters/anime viewers seem to adhere to the 2 Years phobia. I.e. They have extreme trouble breaking the barrier to get themselves to watch series made more than 2 years before they started. Sometimes even 1 Year is hard enough for people to get past. Sound hard to believe? Let's have a look at the tiara winners. 2008 - Fate. StrikerS aired in 2007. It was still fresh in the minds of voters. Runner-up Yuki has Haruhi S1 air in 2006 and plenty of merchandise to keep her in peoples' minds. Yuki remains strong due to a subsequent season and the Disappearance movie. No new material for Fate = slide. Fate needs the Force series to get her numbers back. 2009 - Hinagiku. Season 2 of HnG was airing virtually all the voting year. Manga is still going and seems one of the easier titles for newbies to get into. Runner-up Shana has season 2 finish airing in 2008. May be sliding now but inevitable 3rd season will probably make her rise once more. 2010 - Mio. K-ON S1 aired in 2009 and a longer S2 aired during the voting year. Inevitable movie and college based S3 will keep her near the top for a couple of years yet. Runner-up Mikoto had Railgun airing in 2010 to give her the boost to be in contention. More Railgun airing will keep her current. Out of those that were tiara winners or runner-ups, Fate is the only one that hasn't had recently airing material. It's no surprise she's sliding. The fact she didn't make the 16 last year would mean she has stuff-all chance of making the 16 this year. But if she doesn't make the regular season, I will be surprised. Either the new intake of voters have never watched MGLN or another faction did a deal with them to kill Fate off. Fate is a tiara winner. There have been only 3 out of several hundred characters. So just chill. If Fate's time in ISML is over, be glad she actually managed to win the prize where the chances are far less than 1%.

No, Fate is doing bad because as the number of voters grow...so does the number of people that dont know who she is.
Nanoha just had a movie on 2010, but its not like that boosted her a lot on ISML. The Nanoha series is very popular in JAPAN, but outside of Japan apart from higher leveled anime watchers you would be surprised at how many people have not watched the series. The more popular the anime is worldwide, the higher the chances of staying strong for long periods of time. Take Haruhi and Nagato for example in comparison to the CLANNAD girls, they are both very popular series and had animes airing in the same year but their strength is dropping at different speeds. Haruhi and Nagato still remain decently strong (specially Nagato) while Tomoyo, Kyou, Nagisa, and Kotomi are almost fading to obscurity. And no...worldwide series like Naruto, Bleach, etc...dont count since even popularity does not mean people want their girls in moe contests (unless you are Korea). In Shana's case, the Shakugan no Shana series may not be as popular as Haruhi worldwide but I can guaranteed that more people know who Shana is over Nanoha or Fate. And for series that are not destined to be very popular outside Japan, their best chance is always when they are still new on people's memories (IS, Zombie, OreImo). This is all a popularity contest in the end, having new material for older shows does help characters some but if people dont know who you are from the beginning you arent really going to be gathering votes from a lot of new people by having new seasons. With that said, I doubt Madoka Magica will ever be a popular anime outside of Japan...which might explain the lack of support. PS: Actually scratch all that...all you need to do is be a popular series in Taiiwan and you should be fine.

Actually despite Madoka and Homaru's loses they both had more votes than their opponents in both the USA and Europe[as well as japan], however china and other non-japan/korea asia countries seemed to have far less for them.
