Heidi - Girl of the Alps (World Masterpiece Theatre :- 1974)
o.o;;;;;;;;
MJN has released Ep 1 of Heidi Girl of the Alps. The ALL TIME CLASSIC World Masterpiece Theatre series that was worked on many people who would go on to become famous people in the likes of Studio Ghibli. Anidb link = http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.p...=anime&aid=426 Heidi is about a little girl who is taken to live with her crusty old grandfather on Alm Mountain by her Aunt whose looked after her since birth. The series follows her many adventures!. MJN said this Ep 1 is a one shot to attract translations. If you wanna step in to the breach and bring the series in it's entireity to the fansubbing public drop by MJN on irchighway and give Athanor a buzz. So well umm discuss ?! -gumbaloom PS - It seems Heidi was done by Neko Creations in the VHS days. Does anyone have a copy of the tape or there was apparently rips made of those ?? |

Yeah, we hope you all enjoyed this wonderfull episode.
Like Goomby said, we're dedicated to bring more of this but as many groups we lack translation ressource so if anyone has enough free time & skill to help us on that, all Heidi fans would be happy ^__^ |

Indeed, I remember watching this in my young days along with Candy candy, Nobody boy's Remi and Sandybell... ah, the good old times when anime was actually broadcasted on prime time on the free channels in Latin America

After one episode...
Easy to see why this show is considered to be a classic. Excellent introduction to the story; they also do a great job of fleshing out Heidi's personality - she is more than a collection of fetishes and antics that mar so many young females in today's works. Now THIS is moe done right. Any chance Ghibli goes back to animating TV series, and perhaps revive the old World Masterpiece Theatre? |

So I suddenly decided to start watching this on a whim a short while back, raw episodes on certain streaming video sites... and yeah, I can see why this is a classic. There's something captivating about it all. For example I've only watched the first five episodes but it seems so hard to find children's shows that feature believable, faceted characters like that grandpa. And that aunt. I loved how they didn't demonize her but didn't make her some "angel at heart" person - she's not entirely unkind to Heidi and does have emotions to her, but she will not compromise her want to work and is very frank about it. To a kid who can only still think on the level of "good" and "bad", characters like these surely must be helping them think a little more carefully about people.
Meh, whatever it is I'm enjoying it slowly and by the way the animation looks really very awesome for a show of that era. Even without knowing that Miyazaki's responsible for the layouts and such, it's quite evident. The sometimes detailed acting of Heidi (low frame count, but detailed), the angles and compositions... even things like the flowers and sheep are very pleasing to the eye. I wonder what happened to the subs of this though... I had heard long ago somewhere that WMT R2s come with English subs but maybe that was just for some of them.

I was looking into WMT's works and this one caught my eye because I think I saw this on Turner Classic Movies channel, I think Shirley Temple was Heidi. I'll have to check this one out since I'm sure I'll be able to tell whether or not based on the plot.
Oh and speaking of Alps, what about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Story_o...ps:_My_Annette ? 48 episodes produced by Nippon in 83. It seems very interesting, since it is also a classic I wonder if I can trick someone into um, like, doing it... =-) Last edited by tyciol; 2010-09-02 at 13:54. |

I guess, for the benefit of the Portugese...
But I mean, Akage no Anne is already done so I'd rather they just focus on Heidi. Plus start at ep 5 since MJN did 1-4. Just finished ep 1 it was fantastic. I've been putting off watching it hoping for more, but eh well. MJN has won hearts be doing a classic, any can emulate them. To expand on what Fire Chick said, here are the hyperlinks for the forum posts and megaupload links for their work on Heidi. So far they have done 4 episodes so their work mirrors the progress made by Minor Ja Nai, meaning if they do 5 they will surpass it. http://silverzerosubsalpsnoshoujoheidi.blogspot.com/ http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...ujo-heidi.html (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IS03E520) http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-download.html (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WJ3TD8B8) http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-03.html (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IH96R2R6) http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...ew-member.html (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YW4I4ZYU) I am unsure how to convert those into torrents, possibly they might consider it if people bring torrent technology and Animesuki to their attention? Update: their most recent updates seem to be listed more reliably on this page: http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com rather than the blog they made specifically for Heidi. They have now completed up to episode 9 and have both 'normal quality' and 'high quality remastered edition' versions of it. They have the MU links on their blog so I won't link them directly anymore. http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-05.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-06.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...y-and-new.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...h-quality.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...emastered.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...emastered.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...emastered.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...emastered.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-07.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-08.html http://silverzerosubs.blogspot.com/2...-heidi-09.html Very promising group. I'm contemplating creating a batch torrent of their work when I download it and hosting it on Nyaa so we can track it here on Animesuki. Edit2 : SZS has not done up to episode 16. Still waiting to see if it gets added. Last edited by tyciol; 2012-04-01 at 17:56. |
