One Piece - Chapter 644 [manga]
Welcome to the weekly manga discussion thread for One Piece.

Alrighty, a brief spoiler's out (apparently the usual providers had a little trouble gaining the new SJ this week). Anyhoo, here's what we've got so far (credit to aohige for translation): -Chapter title is "Zero". -Looks like despite what Hody said about humans doing nothing to him last chapter, we still get a flashback involving his childhood, anyhow. -Luffy promises Fukaboshi that he'll protect the people on merman island, and blows away Hody with a new move: Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk! Looks like the method behind it is that he hardens his fist with CoA Haki, then speeds it up so that it becomes as hot as the technique's namesake..... Hmmm, so we'll be getting some insight on Hody's past anyway, huh? Should be interesting. And now Luffy has a fire Haki move..... well, that goes to show that he inherited Ace's will, I suppose. Sounds like a cool chapter, though. Looking forward to it. Last edited by marvelB; 2011-10-26 at 10:37. |

hody might have been lying when he said "nothing". but seriously, i'm going to bang my head on a wall if he happens to be a good guy. I see him as nothing but a racist freako who deserves to die!! >=/
and wowie, firefist technique ala Ace?? sugoi!! Luffy is still the boss after all! XD Anyway, the spoiler took quite long. i thought oda took a break AGAIN lol. |

Duly noted and updated. Quote:
Nope, nothing about the flashback indicates him being a good guy in the remotest sense. It's literally about him and his gang having it beaten it into them since they were kids that humanity is an evil, inferior race (he was literally celebrating when he heard news about a fish-person going all jihadist and suicide bombing a slave shop on the surface!). BTW, looks like the flashback slightly elaborates on how the crew obtained their ES supply (Hody doesn't specify where he got it from, but he does have Zeo mass-produce the drugs). I guess that means I can rule out the drugs being produced from a DF at this point, though it's interesting to note that the crew refers to the ES as being "legendary"...... |

Yep, the new technique sounds cool and all, but the only issue I have with it is that this will be another excuse for people to compare Luffy with Natsu from Fairy Tail (who's basically like a Luffy with fire powers in the first place, though at least our rubber protagonist doesn't chiefly rely on cheap DEMs to win most of his major battles).
