Macross - Voice Actor Appreciation & Discussion
The purpose of this thread is to discuss, critique and idolize the Voice Actor cast of Macross. Please remember that the discussion should center on their performances as professional voice actors and not on the show content (which can be discussed in the various Episode threads). Please remember this simple rule when critiquing a VA's performance or reading another forum member's critique:

Well the voice talent in Lucky Star has certaintly done a......wait what series am I watching? I find it curious that they've pulled not only several popular seiyuu into this series, but several popular packages:
Katsuyuki Konishi and Tetsuya Kakihara (Kamina and Simon) Aya Endo, Aya Hirano and Kaori Fukuhara (Miyuki, Konata, Tsukasa) Yuuchi Nakamura, Katsuyuki Konishi, Aya Endo and Hiroshi Kamiya (Graham, Johann, Kinue and Tieria) Yuuchi Nakamura and Houko Kuwashima (Tomoya and Tomoyo) Sugita Tomokazu and Aya Hirano (Kyon and Haruhi) Souchiro Hoshi, Houko Kuwashima and Rie Tanaka (Kira, Fllay and Lacus) Jun Fukuyama, Souichiro Hoshi and Kikuko Inoue (Lelouch, Gino and Cecile) Almost everybody is seperated by one degree from someone else who they've worked with in other ultra high profile series. There won't be many strangers among the Seiyuu at any public appearances, that's for sure. |

Souchiro Hoshi and Houko Kuwashima have done quite a few roles together where there characters have had a strong relationship of sorts.
Infinite Ryvuis = Yuuki Aiba and Aoi Housen Argento Soma = Takuto Kaneshiro/Ryu Soma and Harriet "Hattie" Bartholomew Gundam SEED = Kira Yamato and Fllay Allstar Gun X Sword = Michael Garret and Wendy Garret (Kikuko Inoue was in this as well a lot, traveled with Wendy for most of the series) Don't really think there characters will have a relationship of any sorts in Frontier but who knows... Nanase could be working under Hoshi's character in the second half of the series for all we know. |

If anything, judging by stareotype of ★'s characters, it's likely he's voicing that villain-ish looking bishie in the OP.

Aya Endo as Sheryl Nome
Megumi Nakajima as Lanca Lee (Debut) Yuuichi Nakamura as Alto Saotome Aya Hirano as Meena Roshan Hiroshi Kamiya as Mikhail Buran Houko Kuwashima as Nanase Matsuura Jun Fukuyama as Luca Angeloni Kaori Fukuhara as Lam Hoare Katsuyuki Konishi as Ozma Lee Kenta Miyake as Bobby Margo Kikuko Inoue as Grace O'Connor Megumi Toyoguchi as Klein Klan Rie Tanaka as Monica Rang Sanae Kobayashi as Kathy Glass Souichiro Hoshi as Brera Sterne Tomokazu Sugita as Leon Mishima Tomomichi Nishimura as Howard Glass Toru Ohkawa as Jeffrey Wilder With so many veteran voice actors in Macross Frontier, it's hardly surprising that there's a lot of them who had worked with one another before. Of the main cast, I only count a couple of Tier 1 seiyuu, but there's an absolute raftful of Tier 2 talent and up-and-comers. Of this latter group, I'm particularly interested by what Toyoguchi Megumi will do with Klein Klan's character, since that promises to be such a fun experience. Based on what's already been released, I already like what Konishi Katsuyuki has done with Ozma's mannerisms. As for the rest, we'll just have to wait and see how well they do.

For me the standout performance was Kamiya Hiroshi's Michael/Mikhail. He kind of revealed a new dimension to his voice that is far less sharp than the usual performances we see, for example in Gundam 00 and Zetsubou Sensei.
From the rest, it's all in a day's work we're used to seeing from them I guess. I'll also be looking forward to what Nakajima Megumi has to offer. She's still a little rough around the edges, but I'm hoping it'll work out. And holy cow, Endou Aya is pretty good for her first meant-to-be-unlikable outing. The above from episode 1. |

I don't see Ozma dying until 10-13 personally. *now watch Ozma die next week after I say this * Also remember we gotta keep his Valkyrie intact for the 2nd op... Of course if they go with 25 now and 25 later that goes all out the window.

but its the overall skill of his machines in that situation that was GAR. If you had to compare, even bloody singing Basara had more GAR. He sang/flew into a universe killing monster, and even when his valkyrie got destroyed aronund him he kept singing. seriously, i think macross works on a different type of GAR. Skill, and finest is macross version of GAR. no need to shout here. oh unless your singing. LISTEN TO MY SOOOOONG!

To keep everyone straight in my mind, I've made a page with images of the characters and their seiyuus. It also gives a little info about each seiyuu.
So far, I've just included characters whose images are on the official site's characters page, but I hope to add others as time goes on. It's Endou Aya that has most impressed me. It's no accident that she has three starring roles this spring (this, My-Otome s.ifr, and Neo-Angelique Abyss). But I really like Nakamura Yuuichi. I'm no specialist in gar, but I like the way he can communicate a combination of solidity and good-heartedness, as he did in Clannad and in Ookiku Furikabutte. And I'm finding Nakajima Megumi as Lanka pretty effective, too, despite the odd bit of newbie flatness in her voice. It comes across as innocent sincerity, fortunately. I liked her singing in ep3, too. (I'm calling her Lanka rather than Ranka because her last name is the Chinese Lee, and I think she should be either the totally Japanese pronunciation Ranka Ri, or the pseudo-Chinese one, Lanka Lee.)

I've updated the character/seiyuu page to include many new faces that have shown up on the official site's character page, as well as one that just appeared in ep4. That one is especially impressive: Toyoguchi Megumi plays Kuran Kuran (also called Klein Klan), a Zentradian, who has both a huge battle form and a small annoying brat form. Even more impressive when I started listing her roles on the page. Good thing I had two entries for her, there were so many great roles. The same goes for Kuwashima Houko, of course.

Spoiler for Clearly no now:
Looks like he's going to be a chaos or Wilhelm this time round. Hoshi seems to have a habit of voicing characters with those kind of hair. X3

I agree with your assessment: I feel that the voice acting in general in Macross Frontier is pretty good, and that the stand outs so far are Kuwashima Houko (in her Kanaria role), Kamiya Hiroshi, and what little we've heard of Toyoguchi Megumi (in both roles, but moreso the macro one). Nakamura Yuuichi is also doing a great job so far, and he'd be my fourth pick.
