Naruto Run! Some Guy Who’s Probably Going to Get Himself
Killed Is the First ‘Storm Area 51’ Meme:

"The original “Storm Area 51" Facebook invitation encouraged people to break into the
secret government facility by doing a Naruto run. And now that the event is here (it’s
supposed to happen today), it looks like some people are taking the instructions literally.
Some random guy was seen on local TV news in Las Vegas yesterday doing a Naruto run
in the background."

Woman, 30, reveals plans to marry Boeing 737-800 she claims she’s
been dating for past six years:

"Michele Köbke from Berlin, Germany is planning to wed the Boeing 737-800 in what she
hopes will be an intimate affair in the Netherlands.

The 30-year-old met the love of her life in March 2014 when she was in Berlin Tegel
airport and has even nicknamed the 737-800 "schatz" which translates to "darling".

Michele was immediately attracted to its wings, winglets and thrusters, and after six
years of only being able to meet the plane through the glass window of the airport, she
was able to kiss the 40-tonne jet and stand on one of its wings in September 2019."

Why does stuff like this always seem to happen in Florida?

I read somewhere that it isn't so much that Florida's weirder, but that its police records are way more accessible. So when journalists want a story, they go at that well, and it delivers. In other states, even if weird stuff happens, it won't be as readily available.

Thanks. It's gotten so that "Florida man" has become a meme. Your explanation makes sense, though I wouldn't entirely dispose of the "Florida man as yahoo" theory either.

How to Turn Yourself Into an Anime Character With One Click:

"Motherboard wrote about the project in August, but now the image generator is making
the rounds again, available as an easily-accessible browser-based tool.

There are two sites using this model in the wild: One is credited to a Japan-based
programmer who goes by Creke (who is not affiliated with the researchers, but would
like to thank them for their "beautiful algorithm," they told Motherboard), and the other
is copyrighted by programmers Rico Beti and Nathan Glover. The former does the image
generation in-browser, while the latter requires your email address. Neither have privacy
policies, and some people reported issues with aggressive ad spam, so waifu yourself at
your own risk."

GOP's Gohmert introduces resolution that would ban the Democratic Party:

"Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) introduced a House resolution Thursday calling on
lawmakers to ban organizations or political groups that have historically supported the
Confederacy or slavery in the U.S., a list he said includes the Democratic Party.

“A great portion of the history of the Democratic Party is filled with racism and hatred.
Since people are demanding we rid ourselves of the entities, symbols, and reminders
of the repugnant aspects of our past, then the time has come for Democrats to
acknowledge their party’s loathsome and bigoted past, and consider changing their
party name to something that isn’t so blatantly and offensively tied to slavery, Jim
Crow, discrimination, and the Ku Klux Klan,” Gohmert said in a statement.

The resolution is co-sponsored by GOP Reps. Andy Biggs (Ariz.), Jody Hice (Ga.),
Randy Weber (Texas) and Andy Harris (Md.)

It comes after the House on Wednesday voted to remove from the Capitol statues of
people who served in the Confederacy or defended slavery."

The Wonderful (and Surprisingly Legal) World of Disney Mockbusters:

"Mockbusters are cheaply made copycats of popular Hollywood movies that first got big
in the 1950s with creature features and other B-movies. Since then, we’ve seen
everything from Transmorphers to Snakes on a Train. But the biggest mockbuster cash
cow is ripping off Disney movies. There are two main ways smaller studios try to do
this—sometimes, they’ll change the marketing for one of their existing movies to
resemble something Disney is getting ready to release. Then, there are those that are
seemingly made for the sole purpose of glomming onto the success of Disney’s biggest
films."

Meet Narmak, Creator of the Viral SpongeBob Anime Suponjibobu:

"Narmak is a self-taught animator and the creator of “Suponjibobu,” a viral
SpongeBob anime series garnering millions of views on YouTube. Narmak adopted the
Japanese term “Suponji Bobu” (スポンジ・ボブ) for his anime interpretation of the
beloved American animated series, “SpongeBob SquarePants.” The Diplomat spoke
with Narmak about what inspires him, the overlap between SpongeBob and Japanese
shonen anime, and multicultural influences from both West and East.

Kamran is a 23-year-old Pakistani-American widely known by his burgeoning fanbase
and over 1.6 million YouTube subscribers as “Narmak,” his online pseudonym. Narmak
first started animating in high school for various projects. While completing his BA in
Economics in southern California, Narmak picked up on an ongoing YouTube trend of
mock opening credit scenes for “Evangelion,” a well-known Japanese anime. Narmak
is especially tied to opening credits of anime due to action sequences, the quality of
animation, and the musical tracks. But many mock “Evangelion” openings featured
various characters with very simple edits. “I asked myself, ‘There’s so much potential
here… what if you took a non-anime show and made an anime opener for that show?’
So I decided that would be my next video project.”

Narmak’s first animated SpongeBob opener was born."

Sounds like some Russian scientists got together with a large supply of Vodka and wrote
a horror movie script:

Russian scientist claims team battled creature under Antarctic ice:

"A defecting Russian scientist has surfaced with a mind-bending account of what REALLY
occurred when he and his colleagues went missing for five days in a mysterious lake
12,366 feet beneath the Antarctic ice.

Dr. Anton Padalka told authorities in Switzerland that the researchers discovered a
bizarre and deadly life form dubbed Organism 46-B – a highly intelligent octopus-like
creature that claimed the lives of three of the team members."

'Dragon Ball' Almost Caused A Diplomatic Fight Between
Japan And Mexico:

"Mexico has the third largest fanbase for Dragon Ball, where the series has been
broadcast on public channels since the '90s, outclassing both Japan and the
United States. And it's not hard to see why when you ask what those three
countries have in common. (Besides having lost wars to America). They all share
culture obsessed with wrestling, a love for outlandish characters talking smack for
hours on end before, during, and after an over-the-top fighting bout. But Mexico
doesn't just relish in the luchador vibe of DB; it returns that Lucha libre love by
turning episodes into massive public fight nights with their own outlandish fight
posters.

Even local governments get in on the action, hosting large, advertised viewing
parties for the entire town to come together and watching monkey dudes and
sentient cruciferous vegetables almost beat each other up. The events became so
big they almost veered into a diplomatic incident. The Japanese embassy had to
send a strongly worded letter to Coahuila's governor to cease and desist its
sponsored DB revelries since they violated those viewing restrictions that used to
flash in front of DVD menus and no one ever read."

Seventy-four UK households got a surprising check in the mail from their energy supplier as compensation for losses due to Storm Arwen. Somehow they confused the meter numbers with the amount of compensation due and cut some rather large checks.

https://www.theguardian.com/business...ds-storm-arwen

Here's an example from a household that received a check for over two trillion pounds:
