Yes, as said before, it's high mobility space pack... but ended up used in cannonball event anyway (not in the race, but in the fight with golems & PT). Inside atmosphere, it was calibrated to compensate for the stability loss. Overall though it's still considered improvement.

@ Demi - They have an AI, but I sure as hell hope they don't have feelings. That means these things have free will......and you're using them for shits and giggles on tournaments and fighting.

@zero: At what class of destructive power would the wings' offensive capabilities be at? a primary weapon or a anti-missile anti-personnel vulcan class?

@eras: I think it's implied that it's because Byakushiki has free will that it was able to evolve into Setsura so quickly despite being such a young unit. It's possible data from White Knight was involved but mostly it was by Byakushiki's choice.

EDIT: The fact they are also choosy about equalizers also implies sentience/free will.

Or the author just wanted to make ichika look badass and shifted it. The fact that he does the shift off screen supports this.

Vulcan class to distract enemies and sweeping missile around. It was supposed to be neutered, but due to the bulkiness of ByakuShiki's wings + Silver Bell, there's no place for Ichika to mount light caliber Gatling he usually carry, it was left functional.

@zero: The only flaw I see in using the silver bell's wing cannons is that in such a weakened state, it's probably going to need continuous fire to deal with probable agile missiles and enemies. Using it as a distraction will be difficult because I'm sure using continuous fire means giving up on its use as wings+thrusters for an extended time. I think in the battle with gospel, the only time it shoots and flies at the same time at high speed is when it takes half a second to flap and send a few bolts towards the protags' way.

The way I see it... maybe keeping it at full power may actually be a good idea.

It's not like it's extremely dull, just less gamebreaker. Also, it's more accurate than before (mostly because less plasma need to be compressed and thus tighter magnetic bottle), therefore instead of random plasma bolt bombardment, we have a continuously firing multi-barrel plasma gun.

This allow Ichika to attack enemy and distract it using the plasma barrage and finally use Yukihira as finishing move when he managed to get into close combat. Remember, it's main function is mobility booster, he still have his main propulsion.

If only that unit is mounted into more balanced unit like Rafael, it'll still retain the full power and still inaccurate, relying on constant barrage and causing collateral damage.

@zero: What I meant was that because you need sustained fire that makes the wings a possible liability. Imagining your design where you said that Silver Bell had to take into consideration Byakushiki's wings to install Silver Bell, I thought they'd be in each other's way a bit which leads me to the next point. Silver Bell can't be used as both offensive weapon and thruster at once, if it performs sustained fire then it basically becomes a bulky beam vulcan. If it interferes with Byakushiki's wings, then not only do you lose the mobility granted by the wings during that time, you also lose mobility due to interference to the main propulsion. Well... just saying how I see it. I probably don't have the same image of your Byakushiki as you do.

@zero: no prob... though they really were in each other's way? The biggest issue is also the fact that the barrels are in the wing tips so if you're shooting forward then the wings have to flex forward. Good luck.

Spoiler for Scene~!: *BSHIIING* Tsurugi rams the Minerva Kai onto the drone, knocking off its parry with the Shenlong then aims the Pitone railcannons at it. “Fal!” “Locked on, firing!” **BIISHH BIISHH Fal triggers the cannons, firing off high-explosive rounds at the drone as it attempts to recover its balance. DBOOM The shots connect and erupt into an intense explosion which knocks out the drone, causing it to fall as Tsurugi turns to Lingyin. “You all right, Rin?” Lingyin becomes surprised as she instantly recognizes the voice. “That voice…! Tsurugi!” The other IS pilots, excluding Cecilia, are also surprised at the apparent revelation. “Tsurugi…? What is she—” “Long story, I’ll tell you later… For now, let’s take them out!” “Right!” Tsurugi and Lingyin dives towards the falling drone as it snaps back online, regaining its balance while aiming its beam gun. Seeing the gun muzzle flash, Tsurugi quickly swings her katana to deflect the beam shots while still closing in. The Karin System’s heat layers then channels onto the katana, turning it into a makeshift searing heat blade. “CHEEESTO!” She brings up the white-hot katana and swings it onto the drone which then puts up a barrier. A repulsive heat wave bursts at the point where the superheated katana strikes the barrier, inflicting major damage to the drone’s shield power as it flinches from the impact. Lingyin comes around and fires simultaneous impact shots at the drone, deteriorating its defenses even further as it wipes out the last of its barrier. Out of desperation, the drone deploys its beam blade and turns towards the Minerva Kai. SHING Tsurugi slices off its arm just as it was about the lunge the blade then brings up the katana over her shoulder, diagonally swinging the katana down and slices the drone apart. “Got it…!” She exclaims while flying off to assist Cecilia against the Astra as the sliced drone explodes. Somewhere nearby, Laura catches another drone with her wire daggers and restricts its movements. “Now!” “Got it!” Charlotte closes in and draws her twin shotguns, aiming them towards the drone at point-blank. BANG BANG** The close-range buck shots dramatically chews up the drone’s shield power as it then flashes its visor and kicks the shotguns from her grip. “Ah!” The drone’s visor glows bright as it slowly overpowers Laura’s hold, deploying its beam arm blade then severs the wired daggers’ connection. “Geh… Impressive! However…!” Laura charges towards the drone while preparing to project the AIC but it quickly boosts away before she could catch it. “Tch… It saw through my moves?” The drone retaliates with its beam gun as she then blocks the shots with a shield barrier. “Laura!” Charlotte calls up her Vent rifles and shoots at the drone, scoring hits while also distracting it from attacking the Schwarzer Regen. __________________ "You cannot be bad at watching a movie.
