That scene - and indeed much of the episode - had a distinct Full Metal Jacket feel, whether intentional or not.

The training camp was no picnic.
Well, those giants aren't one either.
It's better they get the rough training now.
Sasha is an interesting girl ^^
Eren was pretty pathetic for a while there..
Luckily he managed to overcome his weakness.

I've seen people refer to Eren's "weakness" multiple times in this episode, but he really didn't show any? The only reason he failed with the 3d gear training was because he gear was defective from the start.

I don't really get the problem with Eren's equipment. So what if a metal fitting was rusted? As long as it didn't break, it shouldn't matter, should it?

What should, OTOH, is the position of his center of mass relative to where the ropes are attached. If it's too high, no amount of talent could save him. If it's low enough, as long as he doesn't do something blatantly wrong, he should stay upright. So why didn't they suspect a badly fitted harness from the start? (And possibly a skull of solid rock?)

Great episode , damn Potato-chan was crazy

Laugh at the guy who thinks that Eren = Naruto (etc.... all those typical MC)
Sorry dude , we're not watching the same anime or your brain isn't really working.

Rusted things tend to be weaker. Maybe it bend to much. Or maybe because it's rusted the friction become different.

And goddamn Mikasa grew up HOT.

No, I'm pretty sure it was that guy who Eren picked a fight with earlier.

It might matter if he wanted to move fast and accurately. Not if all he wants is to just hang there.

I think it's about stability. If the pulleys are too loose it would make it significantly harder to balance correctly.

That potato girl was utterly hilarious. I never expected some of the hardest laughs from this season come from this show.

Great episode all round. I was cheering for Eren all the way when they revealed the problem was with his equipment the entire time.

Haha, I enjoyed this episode really much.
Sasha is just too awesome.
I guess all the budget for this episode went into scenery porn (lake shot at night) and the last few bits before the ending started

Also, I can't really decide if I think Jean or Misaka damaged Eren's equipment.
If there even is a culprit behind it at all and it's not just because Eren lucked out on getting good gear.

About the lipstick thingy.
First I think it's funny how Sasha is the only one without (or did I just not notice it), like, she's so "manly" (in her behaviour) she doesn't need it
Second, I really don't mind it on Christa/Krista, Ymir and Annie but it's so....WEIRD on Misaka.
Like most people here already said, she looks like 20 or something

Oh, and I agree about this anime needing a subforum here.

Considering this is some advanced technology in a time similar to early industrial revolution,I would say just a single flaw in the design would cause the device to break down and stop functioning.

Honestly mods, this is an anime that needs a sub-forum. It's hard for people not to get spoiled but it's also hard for people to not spoil.

I think that guy lost faith in humanity a little to easily lol It wasn't the Titans or anything like that, nope, it was the fact that Mikasa was with Eren and that she's getting her hair cut lol

Pretty good episode, it definitely showed how badly Eren wants to get this, I just wish Mikasa would show even a little bit of support when he was down.

The portable stuff they use to rewind the ropes and move fast is advanced technology.

But all Eren had on him was a harness with some buckles to attach ropes. It's bronze age tech, even counting the pulleys used to lift him up. (Except for the materials, which I guess are leather and steel.)

With faulty equipment he sucked, with good one he were ok. It should be enough as proof. If you are engineer and can prove it shouldn't work like that, author is on blame not Eren.

How can they be 12?? I'll pretend I never saw that bit. They look like at least 15 to me and that's how it should be.
