To the first question: they have; to the second: well, probably better than Baka-tsuki in any case.

The novels are licensed by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in joint venture with Yen Press (both are part of Hachette Book Group USA).

The first novel will be released in April 2009.

and this is a good thing right? It won't be like what Viz supposedly did to the Shana novels right?

Their PR guy appears to be a fan of the novels himself.

I think we can trust Little, Brown Books.

yeah, but when you go to the website....they only have manga scheduled for release. Both Yen Press, and Little, Brown, and all the sites searched with Hatchet Books.

They "said" it was liscenced, but so far, looking into the futures, the sites are only posting that the "manga" will be released, first in Oct. this year, next in March of the next.

who knows...

Right Stuf, Inc. apparently "knows."

The book is only listed in a license list (word doc format, page 24): http://www.hachettebookgroupusa.com/...ightsguide.doc

for my official "news" i checked the site again and found that list. Yeah....sigh....

scheduled for release in April next year is the first volume...

How much do you want to bet that they'll "steal" B-T's translation, then just edit a bit of it to save $$ on translators??? ^_^ B-T's a free wiki....so technically....

The thing that has me worried is the "12+ age" thing...all those references to Asahina's....physic, and Haruhi's wanting her for...specific reasons, how she "received" the computer, etc etc. I don't know, but I don't think I'd quite want my 12 year old getting too many ideas at that age ^_^

how edited do you think it's gonna be?

If they left all the risqués content, they will have to rated the novels, or expect problems from those feared soccer mum than got angry at everyone when they by stuff to theyr kid without even looking at the content or the back-cover.
And of course, if they edit the novel they will get problems from those angry Fans how get hateful when someone dare altering the purity of what they are looking/reading.
Pretty nasty can of worm, is it not?

yeah, i think they should just change the age rating. That in and of itself should help sales...i think people are more likely to pick up a book for their age level, as opposed to the same book rated for kids at ages 12....c'mon, who'd pick this up if they thought it's content was like curious george?? ^_^

I don't know about you but I was doing some things that made this book look tame at 12. Curious George is in an entirely different catagory and is more proper for age 5 or 6.

My reading material when I was 12 was Stephen King. Christopher Pike couldn't cut it for my entertainment.

I see different ages from Little Brown and Right Stuf.

Now I'm curious though. What did Viz do to Shana?

Little, Brown, rated it "Young Adult", which is like 14+, I believe.

Since Shana is a loli, Viz censored the fanservice, and there's some translation issues, such as translating "Serei no Heibi" (I think) as "Snake Festival" rather than "Snake of the Festival".

That, and they can't seem to release them.

Even though there seems to be zero mention of Shana's age.

I guess we have to wait to see how the novel and manga are translated.

Physically, Shana is twelve. I think.

So whats the news on Volume 10 as of now? I finally finished vol 9(I started from volume 1 during class times, needless to say assignments took over) and like the direction of the Beta one, but the Alpha one seems weak to say the least. I REALLY want the next book, the hard core cliffhanger at the end of B-6 is really making me mad, and there is still no season 2!
