Seems like the anime of oinari sama generated quite a general negative response here.
Wonder if you guys know where to find images from the novel? Thanks.

I wouldn't say that it's generating a negative response here at all. It's generating an "unknown quantity" response, which is to be expected since it's based on light novels. We'll see what happens when first episode airs -- I know I'm certainly going to check it out, anyway.

*adds Wagaya to my list of shows to check out next season* Yukana is one of the few Va's that will make me check out any show as long as she is playing a main character. |

She's moe and she has a tail and fox ears...what's not to love
I have high hopes for this...all the more for them to come crashing down if it doesn't hold true. But I am pretty much accepting of most things so it has to work quite hard for me to go "bleh >.>"

It's the same studio , though I suppose you mean "character design" and not "animation quality", since we haven't seen much animation yet, only still shots...

Pretty much all of the recent Kadokawa anime have had "blog websites" like this. Ninomiya-kun, H2O, and now this. I don't think it's a matter of spending money, as opposed to them going for a different style. Rather than feeling like a PR site made by an ad agency, I think it's supposed to feel more like you're getting info straight from the producers on their blog. A little bit lower key and more "personal". It's also being repackaged under the NewType brand, so it's all part of a larger marketing strategy. I wouldn't necessarily think any worse of the show because of it.

The light novels are published under the light novel label Dengeki Bunko, a shounen light novel label targeting something between teenage boys to men in their twenties. The manga adaptation was serialized in the shounen manga magazine Dengeki Comic Gao!, and continued serialization in the seinen manga magazine Dengeki Daioh, so hopefully this explains the target readership of the manga. Anyway, "cross-gender" isn't something new in male oriented manga/light novels.

I was looking at the list of Dengeki Novel Prize winners for light novels and I noticed that Wagaya no Oinari-sama got the gold prize in 2003. The only other 2 award winning novels I've seen on that list were Baccano! (2002 co winner of gold prize) and Spice and Wolf (2005 Silver Prize) and I really enjoyed those two series. Thanks to that info my expectations for this show went up a bit though even if the source material is great the anime can still easily suck.

At the illustrator's site we could once view a lot of artworks, but now there are less images there...
Wagaya no Oinari-sama is a Shinto-based modern tale. I'm afraid subbers will surely have some difficulty in the terminology and concepts. |
