I don't know, that trailer was really bland. Is there a reason why everyone thinks will be better than Sword Art Online (I didn't like Sword Art Online, either)?

It's better than Sword Art Online because at least this series will not have the drama that is associated with the concept of "dying in-game = dying for real". Without that, the worst any character would get in this series is ending up respawning over and over again.

If anything, I'd approach this series as Working! in an online game or something like that.

Hmm, I was checking the NHK blog so much that I missed the updates to the official site out o3o. If we listen carefully, we can hear what might be part of the OP (0:08~0:49) and ED (0:50~1:8) in the background of the trailer =3

Also, looking at the episode list, the anime should finish the first volume within the first four episodes.

Death does have its consequences in this series though I can't say anything more at this point without spoiling, other than that it affects the players personally. From a emotional PoV, this penalty might not be as dramatic as straight-off dying would seem, though opinions might differ. Also, only Adventurers (what players are known as ingame) can respawn infinitely (or so it seems now. Further developments might change this). This distinction plays a part in the fourth volume.

In any case, Mamare is not a "grim-dark" writer that kills named characters with glee, a reputation that plagues Tomino Toshiyuki and Urobochi Gen. LogHora (and MaoYuu) generally have a positive outlook and there's an underlying "When stuck, take the first step, push on and don't hesitate" theme.

But that's the only thing that made SAO interesting.

It's also what made it silly since we all knew Kirito was never going to die with his protag plot armor and the consequences of people dying in the game never felt that heavy, especially in the anime.

It is quite funny that in every anime community i lurked in(MAL, 4chan and facebook) the general consensus would be "meh, this a fucking SAO ripoff. drop while its hot" or something like that.

That would be because people in those places often judge solely based on first thoughts or impressions. They don't bother to do further research to see whether or not it's actually a ripoff, and for a lot of them, the concept of genres seems to elude them.

The OP song and sequence is already better than a certain show that is always compared to but should not be named, so it's a good start!

It's weird being excited for a Satelight show again, but that opening sure did it.

I know nothing about this other than what Esta has told me.

But if it has music like that, I'm in anyway.
