I'm definetely looking forward to this, since Kanon is one of my favourite series ever.

Saying that, even though i'm an Ayu fan, i'm hoping for a different ending. If just to see another side of the plot that we didn't see before, animated.

The story of planetarian isn't really interesting enough IMO since it'll mostly be about two "beings" living inside a planetarium. The part where the animation could really show off is secondary to the story. Also, you have to ask yourself: did the ending make you cry or Reverie's projection? Alas, IMO, planetarian deserves a one hour OAV at most.

Anyway, I'm very excited about the new Kanon production and I guess the good animation will be another reason for me to finally buy the DVDs. The first version is IMO one of the best anime out there, which is second to AIR only because of the animation. Story-wise, well... it's Key's tale. ^^;

Planetarian would work very very well as a full length 100 minute feature film, since it has a very straightforward plot, 2 main characters, two climaxes, and a very decent open ended conclusion.

Looks like I touched many people's nerve with my last post. I got quite a few neg reputations from that ^_^;;

Like it or not, Air TV did not make that much money for KyoAni since it is not a big hit in the mainstream market(DVD?).

And people wondered why fanboys get look down on...
(But then again, I am a Key fanboy, so...

Planetarian will make a good short 40 minutes OVA. As someone said the plot is linear- you can sum it up in 3 sentences.

There are no plot twists, nor a hugh cast.

Anyone have any statistics to prove that KyoAni did/did not profit with Air TV?

Just because it isn't a hit mainstream doesn't mean it did not make money.

Moreover, it is aimed for otakus, KyoAni knows that. Saying that any company did not profit with their non-mainstream anime is a premature generalization.

If the following post (see reply 29) is reliable, Air DVDs did quite well last year (as compared to other anime series).

http://anime.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/c...ws/1133194026/

Judging from the fact that a Clannad Movie and a Kanon remake are in-progress, I think it is safe to assume that the Air TV is quite profitable.

Saw that this morning, so thought i'd let people know. Apart from the tiny resolution, it looks good.

And as a random side note, at the moment there are as many people here with Key based avatars, as those without just on this page. O.o

Of course it made money.

But compared to mainstream big hits DVD sales internationally??

Yes, I do think Air is good enough for that.

I noticed GSD sales are over 600000...

Note:
Key wouldn't even licence its series' TV animations to other countries (correction: once- Air got licenced to a chinese company for an astronomical amount of money).
Which is why Air/Kanon/Clannard are not licenced in US.

Despite it's small resolution, the trailer was amazing. That's how Kanon should be. Now I'm looking foward to the series even more than I have been.

More Akiko~! >o<

I really liked how they followed the original game scenes in that small trailer. Not only do they look amazingly detailed, it has the artistic touch Kyoani is best known for.. Mikoto's scene in the field was one of my best memories coming from that game. The second I saw that animated in the trailer, I knew that this will not dissapoint.

oohh... got goosebumps when Last Regrets was playing in the background.

It's always "original bishoujo game music" for the win. Some game-based anime don't use the original game's soundtrack, or even just the OP/ED. KyoAni got their cards right by using Key's original music for Air (and now Kanon). It keeps the original intention of the game inplace.

Maceart downloads trailer.
Maceart watches trailer.
Maceart jumps for joy.

NO MORE POINTY CHINS!

And boy does the animation look darn near CG like. Now if we can get CLANNAD like this... and a Planetarian movie...

Looks like the over-the-top CG visuals for the background scenaries are becoming a standard for Kyoani, together with solid character designs + game music:

Ahh, just looking at the trailer brings back memories...

Just reading your posts already makes me get goosebumps. Now I know downloading the trailer is TOP priority when I get on my PC tomorrow.

Yay for Mai, Nayuki, and Sayuri in HD quality~ ^^ Seeing this and the Clannad movie, coupled with the Blue-Rat release of KyoAni Air TV, this year is shaping to be one of the best. ^^ *jumps for joy*

Just a q though, I don't know the story for Clannad and Tomoyo After, not even the basics, but do you think it'd be possible to see a 26 ep Clannad+Tomoyo After series?

For those who're having trouble with the trailer, Asmadi @ haeleth put up a YouSendIt link to the WMV file.

Here it is: Kanon Preview.

Very prettiful indeed. Now, if only I can get my hands on a higher resolution version of that trailer... Spring (Autumn to you northerners) can't come too soon. In fact, depending on when it airs, 'twill almost be like a birthday present for me

Countdown: Kanon 2006, beginning ^^

Works fine for me... should come up with a page with a 'Download Now' link - if you'd prefer, the direct link to that file (may or may not work directly, does for me, but hey, mileage may vary ^_^) can be obtained here: clicky.
