You have some very incorrect info. You obviously never read the manga and are going on bits and pieces that other people, who probably haven't read the manga, have written.
Spoiler for manga:

So I don't know how far behind I am on this thread because I'm new but I think I can explain the ending.

XxxxSPOILERxxxX

There is a lot of symbolizm in this series. Keep in mind that Lucy was always facinated by the music box and Nyu was always obsessed with fixing the clock.

So everyone knows that at the end of episode 13 kota sees a figure behind the door and at that very moment the music box stops and the clock begins to work. This symbolizes the end of Lucy and the begining of Nyu. The music box was always a symbol of Lucy's regret and hatred while the clock was Nyu's humanity that she was franticaly trying to piece together again. So I believe that it is Nyu behind the door but with all the memories of both of them. To support my point Nana wasn't able to detect the presence of Lucy.

I think that covers most of it. Hope that helped. ^-^

Yep, I did like it, it was a few years ago I watched it now, and I'd still put it up there amongst the better series I've seen.
I also dont particularly disagree with your line of thought, I also think that was Lucy/Nyu (Kaede) behind the door, however it was left ambiguous as with many other things, because animation studios like that sort of ending, and it left room for a sequel.

I really hope they will make a sequel because at one point the head of the operations took off his wig and said this was only the beginning. So that gives me hope. :3 Haha learned lilium on piano. XD

I would say the odds of a sequel are rather low. I say this because 1) the studio will have to find a way around the ending of the first season (and I'm sure someone here will offer a way) and 2) based on what happens in the manga after the anime ends, I don't think any studio would want to go the direction the manga takes. But who knows, I've been surprised before.

Plus its been a few years now, if they were going to go down the sequal route, I think it already have happened (its not like Elfen Lied has the popularity of Full Metal Panic or Haruhi to back it up). Elfen Lied is probably just going to stay a bit of a cult favourite.
Not that thats a bad thing, as its easy to hurt the memory of a series if a cash-in follow up is released.

I agree. If it is not broken then don't fix it.

But anyways I picked up on Elfen about a month ago and loved every minute of it. The artwork, characters, and story were all wonderful and I loved how the author looked at the negativity of human nature. I am glad I managed to run into this anime it easily my 1st pick for all the anime series I have seen.

I'v seen my share of anime and when I saw Elfen it instantly hit the top of my list. God I just love this anime. XD Now that i think about it,, it would ruin the whole feeling of the show if they made a sequel. Now for some breakfast.

Say... this is for anyone who's read the manga. If Nozomi would've appeared in the anime, who do you think should've voiced her?

I vote for Nana Mizuki using her Hinata voice.

This was just an amusing thought, but does anyone know of any person who cosplayed as one of the characters of this series at an anime convention?

Elfen Lied...sadness. I cried at the last few episodes. "I killed my own child and then my wife commited suicide"...great. I feel emo now.

I love Elfen Lied, SO much <3 Cosplayed as Lucy at AMKE in March xP she's so badass. One of my favorites of all time. Made me cry a lot, gets you emotionally tied to it. Also, if I can just point this out - best. first episode. ever.

So! Is it Lucy at the end (with the now running clock as a symbol for a new beginning) or not? In the manga she took her own life... :-( So freakin' sad if I'd go to bed now knowing Lucy died >-< Truly binds you emotionally to the characters!

I Guess you're right! After looking at it a second time, yeah, the standing is not at all Lucy (way to unconfident, look at her leg positioning, not even straight):

Spoiler for One of the last frames of the Series! Spoils pretty mouch if you're into the series and haven't seen all episodes!:

Nice <3
