However, I'm sure the World Cup may be interfering with some series..... that said, whee for World Cup (about the only sport I can stand to watch anymore...).

Oh.. got me scared there for a little bit..
Altough my entire country is football fanatic, specialy since we are taking part in it.., I am not.. Hence... I would be realy dissapointed (to say the least) if they had taken Uta-mono off because of the World Cup.. So.. much like Shivona wrotte : *takes the gun away* Last edited by Alu; 2006-06-02 at 20:53. |

yay! football! highlight of this decade for me! not only will i have to adjust from being a financial blackhole for my family (a.k.a a undergrad) to a "professional" I can now afford to travel to watch the footy! yay! not that I'am...rather sit in the comfort of my home, drink cold beer, and watch Utawarerumono inbetween the HDTV matches.

Evidently the new emperor hangs out at supply depots and uses fire as a teleportation medium. Okay... And he's not too shabby a fighter, either, though he doesn't match the badassery of a metal fan. I was kinda hoping Hakuoro would just shove his metal fan though that guy's throat, too, so it would all be like, "Well that was easy." Oh well.
And now we have three annoying officer-class villains. Bah. And Samurai Leader guy was about to kick their asses, too. =/

Shinova, both groups have excellent subs. It is a matter of preference. My preference after reviewing both for this series is a slight edge for the quicker group, who also phrases expressions in a way I prefer.
Hakuoro has the knowledge to create explosives in which most everyone else does not know how except for Eruruu? He must have been a war god or something before waking up in that village. As for Aruruu going into battle with Mukuru, that is just asking for disaster. I wonder if Hakuoro/Benawi/Oboro will teach her how to defend herself in battle, at least? I wonder how much longer I have to feel sorry for Eruruu? I mean every episode, she has that sad expression, as if she is losing the man she loves, and more competition keeps coming. Emperor Yue seems more insane than scary, so far. It would be nice for Hakuoro to conquer a few more countries to match the size of Shikerepetim before battling them. Although, I think this guy is still not the biggest bad guy there is yet, judging from the intro. In the end of the series, it will probably be the two biggest empires battling it out for unification.

Utawarerumono has been great so far, but, let's face it, it doesn't hold a candle to the World Cup.
Anyway, there's something about this, something I can't quite put my finger on that makes this such an intriguing show. I think it's the sum of a lot of little things. The characters are very complex, particularly Hakuoro (obviously), but as well Eruruu, who I made the big mistake early of dismissing as another pining cliched female lead. There's something that I can only describe as "enigmatic" about her that makes her interesting to watch. I thought she showed a certain strength by the way that she refused to turn her head to the sins (I hate that word) that she knows Hakuoro has no choice but to commit. I also thought Hakuoro showed an interesting side to his character when he didn't try to hide his actions from her in the final part of the episode. There's an honesty between the two of them that makes them very engaging characters. There's also a lot of tension about the battles. A lot of it's the fact that the soldiers of Tusukuru are very much underdogs, and, c'mon, who doesn't like an underdog? But the battle scenes do a fairly good job of showing the state of the overall situation and the way Hakuoro tactically thinks his way to victory makes him an even more respectable character.... even if his methods can be accused of being cheap (but, then again, one does what one must to win). The big flaw in this series still remains the same for me: the enemies are so flat. Yue is exactly like the last guy, except that he can actually fight. He may develop later on, but given the way he was presented in this episode, I'd be very surprised. I just can't see him as any more than an excuse for a conflict. But, overall, very good episode. The tension was great, and this series continues to surprise me. It's funny how the series with the lesser expectations tend to be the ones that deliver more.
