Wolfsmund - 14th Century Medieval Swiss Historical Manga
Early 14th Century, Europe
Within The Alpine Region, Lies the St. Gotthard Pass. It is the shortest path that links The Northern German and Southern Italian Regions of The Holy Roman Empire. Since the opening of the pass that claimed many lives - as far as stories told it's only possible by a deal with The Devil, The People of The Alps Cantons controlled the important passage, and made fortune from the Trade Route. To defend their common interests, The Free Three Cantons of The Forest of Uri, Schwyz, and Unterwalden form a Confederation, against threats from the power play inside The Empire itself. However, The House of Habsburg, covets the strategic pass. To cement their position of importance inside The Empire, The Habsburg invaded and occupied the region. To guard the pass, The Habsburg build a Barrier in The St. Gotthard Pass, and appoint a ruthless, sadistic man as an Overseer that said as the Devil's own offspring, to oversee the Barrier Station, which is known as The Wolf's Maw... Spoiler for Covers:
I haven't seen a thread for this series, so well, I made one. The Mangaka, Mitsuhisa Kuji, is reported to been an assistant to both Kentaro Miura of Berserk fame, and Kaoru Mori. This is a Brutal, unforgiving series, where named Characters dies in a frequent manner; as we follow Lord Magistrate Wolfram, the overseer of the barrier, His constant efforts to guard the barrier and His clever, wiley tricks at foiling The Resistance. The backstory addressing the creation of the pass is supernatural enough.
Evil spirit already won, I mean, heck, how many people died in the pass now? Previously, the spirit was tricked for the life of one girl. Jeez supernatural beings can be really petty and self-righteous.

Spoiler for Meh...:
Either way, we don't really see how he turned out to be the man as we know he is... Well, into 5th Volume, he can unexpectedly panic when the gates was breached; and boy, he do love Defenestrations, doesn't he?... Quote:
If there will be a continuation, it will need a new Title. Last edited by cupumanager; 2014-04-09 at 11:10. |

Really? that means another Wolfram-Incarnate or his descendant or whatever, need another Evil Lair that deserves the moniker Wolfsmund...
The Omake of Vol.4 jumps to the time The Swiss Reislaufer Mercenaries were rightly feared across Europe...will the "new" Wolfsmund set in the 16th Century? Perhaps he would be an Habsburg Interrogator again during The German Peasant Rebellions...but I feel the mighty Irony if he became a Contra-Reformation Catholic Inquisitor will be much more interesting... |
