Nichijou has left great first impressions. I would rather they animate LB!, planetarian, and rewrite when that comes out... Another season of FMP would be nice too.

list of what you want KyoAni to do most?

for me
1. More Key Adaptations
2. More FMP
3. More Haruhi
4. More L☆S
5. Considering that they did a great job with FMP and Haruhi, I'd like to see other LN adaptations

You know, i'd love to organize an Art gallery exhibit on Kyoto Animation.

I call it "Animated in Kyoto: The art of Kyoto Animation"

My highlights of this exhibit would be:

-Showings of every KyoAni anime of course

-8 mini LCD screens connected to one, each showing an episode of Haruhi's Endless Eight to demonstrate different camera work, cinematography and art style.

-A 3D mini-concert by Houkago Tea Time

-Illustrations by KyoAni artists and designers.

-Examples of In-between work done by KyoAni, including Neon genesis Evangelion, Kiki's delivery Service and Inuyasha.

-Clannad Hologram showcase, a Hologram-esque showcase of Seasons in Clannad

-The paintings of Lucky Star & Nichijou, a showcase of painted landscapes used in Lucky Star & Nichijou.

-A talk panel by Aya Hirano, Toyosaki Aki, Tomokazu Sugita and various KyoAni-affliated seiyuus

I'd love to curate a KyoAni art gallery exhibit. It'd be a demonstration of KyoAni's dedication towards art and design and would totally attract various members of the artistic circle. And i'd also love to do art gallery exhibits based on PA Works and Gainax as well.

Quoted for Truth. More Key adaptations would be a start, though I am kinda getting tired of the Kanon/Clannad "one guy helps girls with their troubles" formula. Perhaps, I donno, produce a "normal" anime from a "normal" piece of source material, and use their reputation for high standard production value to produce something nice?

I'm going to have to disagree with you. The formula of CLANNAD/Kanon is the formula of Key. I sorta like that formula. It works very well at creating emotional responses imho, and that's what I liked about Kanon and CLANNAD.

I agree with both of you.

I don't know why they just don't go and do Little Busters already. It's been there for ages. It's quite popular. It's character cast are just great for an anime.

What are you waiting for, Kyoto Animation?

I mean, surely I like moe. I like dessert and sweet cakes. I don't like being handled a bag of sugar and expecting me to enjoy that by itself

They've been pretty disappointing me, lately. Do I have to wait until 2014 for more Haruhi or something?

I think the problem lies less in the content and more in the follow through of any given type of show. It wouldn't matter how good your lemonade is if everybody else on the street were turning everyone away with sub-par beverages. And by the way, I'm referring to my own reluctance toward certain drinks after I had an awkward blend of something similar, if you know what I mean.

PS: Kyoto Animation will do their own take on Legend of the Galactic Heroes, except all the characters are 14 year old girls. Oh, and it airs on 12/21/12.

I'm aware it's the formula for Key, but it doesn't mean that KyoAni HAS to adapt Key Works. They could just grab a popular LN series for example (they did it for FMP and Haruhi for example) and adapt that using their high quality production standards. Key VNs is just the better alternative compared to 4koma adaptations because I'm really sick of the "4 girls ensemble with cute girls doing cute things" formula. But Key VNs is not the best alternative.

Random32 ♥ Key

I'm most definitely biased on what I want KyoAni to do, namely more Key adaptations.

looks at the other versions of AIR Kanon and CLANNAD
*horrified*
I need quality adaptations of Key VN's, not this crap!

I get the feeling that depends more on Key than KyoAni.

They just blew their budget on Disappearance. Did you really think their next move wouldn't be replenishing it using the next moe-blob title?

KyoAni is good at adapting visual novels by Key. They are also good at lots of other things, like LN adaptations and 4koma adaptations.

I don't want to have another bad adaptation of a Key VN. I especially don't want to wait several years before a good adaptation comes out (like for Kanon). That's why the highest thing on the list for what I want KyoAni to do is Key adaptations. Followed by Haruhi and FMP. I just love L☆S, so thats really the exception to my "no more 4koma" wish.

Based on how Disappearance did in theaters and on DVD sales, I should imagine that KyoAni turned a net profit on that.

Not to mention that they made plenty of money on K-On!! back in 2010 too.

Plus, are you suggesting that a Little Busters anime wouldn't sell well?

Good question.

If you comb through the first three pages of this, you can find the DVD sales for Air, Kanon, and Clannad.

Air averaged over 20,000 DVD sales per volume.

Kanon (2006) averaged just shy of 20,000 DVD sales per volume.

Clannad made well over 20,000 DVD sales per volume.

So 20,000 DVD sales per volume seems a pretty safe bet for a KyoAni/Key team-up.

I'm fairly sure they make quite a bit more cash on K-On merch than they did CLANNAD/Kanon/AIR merch.

or do merch sales go to someone else?

Oh, K-On! was almost certainly more profitable to KyoAni than Clannad/Kanon/Air were, I'm not denying that. But it's not like they can't turn a nice profit off of a Key team-up. 20,000 DVD sales is pretty huge itself. You might get 10 TV animes per year, at most, that'll hit that many DVD sales.

I just don't want to see KyoAni turn into little more than a 4Koma-to-anime adaptation company. They showed how good they can be with the Key collaborative efforts, and their Haruhi works (E8 notwithstanding).
