Re: Ie 6

I don't mind seeing the alternative being the default...I'd prefer the menu bar being there instead of right under the banner

Honestly, I prefer the menu bar at the top where it used to be, but at lest I have easy access to search once more. As long as you are modifying skins, please modify the VBulletin style to include the banners that everyone worked so hard on. I prefer the blue look to muddy brown, but I won't switch to that skin unless I get the banners.

You're my hero! There is just one problem with this. In the vBulletin style, the banner doesn't quite touch the top, right or left of the window the way it does in the AnimeSuki style. To make this problem clear I am attaching an image. The top is the vBulletin alternate and the bottom is the AnimeSuki alternate. Please fix, it just isn't as pretty this way.

Banner Comparison Picture

Edit: As I continue to use it, I'm seeing a number of differences between this new skin and the old one that go beyond the cool color. Mostly good differences, like people's names being larger. I think the reason that the banner doesn't touch the edge of the window is because nothing touches the edge of the window in this skin. The negative space border that it has is the one thing I don't like.

Actually NoSanninWa, that's an issue that Opera has with CSS. You see, GHDPro's stylesheet probably has this in the body style...

Code:
body {margin: 0;}
I've experienced this problem when dealing with Opera, and you need to make the body padding 0 as well. I don't know why it requires this, but you need to do that in order to have no margins. It looks great in Mozilla Firebird and IE, though :P

I guess you figured that out from my criticism on your page last week? Thanks for the tip. Hopefully that will work as well for GHDPro as it did for you.

Is it just me or does the Vbulletin skin not show the spoiler tags correctly?

Yeah, I found that out the hard way when I made the mistake of willingly going into the Naruto forum.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but yes, I hope it works for GHDPro too.

Also fixed the thread preview for Opera.
Thanks for the alternative Vbulletin style. I really like it better than the bland animesuki style.

Sorry! I'm not trying to be a pain and harp on this, but while you fixed the thread preview for Opera in animsuki style, it doesn't work in "vBulletin Style (Alternative)."

You were right, the AnimeSuki skin has this:
Quote:
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
while the vBulletin skin had this:
Quote:
margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
It should work now.

About spoiler tags in the vBulletin skin: also fixed, hopefully.

The Small One:
Your comment just gave me an idea about the "next generation" spoiler tag,
which could use a bit of layering + javascript. Whether it will work in practice though,
I don't know -- but I'll try to get it to work.

YES! The next generation of spoiler tags!

Thank you for fixing the spoiler tags ^_^ Although I tend to avoid threads with spoilers in them.

Well don't keep your hopes up, I think it may be a little hard to implement.
Basically what I was thinking about is to enclose the text in:
Code:
<span id="spoiler" style="display:none"></span>
and then add some Javascript to show the spoiler. The problem however
lies in the "id" part -- it must be unique for each spoiler on the page, or
otherwise it will show/hide ALL spoilers or only the first one or not work at all...
And I'm a bit at a loss at how to get that unique tag, unless I hack vBulletin...

Hmm... perhaps you could do something like this, but it would probably take up a lot of bandwidth. I also have nothing to test it on, so it may or may not work. It's just an idea I have...
Code:
print "<style type=\"text/css\">";
print "<!--";
$query = ***insert mysql query here to select all posts on a page***
$query = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_errno() . mysql_error());
$num = 0;

while($fetch = mysql_fetch_object($query))
{
    if(ereg("[spoiler", $fetch->post))
    {
       $esplodify = explode("[/spoiler]", $fetch->post);
       foreach($esplodify AS $key=>$value)
       {
            if(ereg("[spoiler", $value))
                  $foundSpoiler[] = 1;
       }
       $numspoilers = count($foundSpoiler) - 1;
       while($num <= $numspoilers)
       {
           print "#spoiler" . $num;
           print "{";
           print ----information for spoiler tags go here-----
           print "display: none;";
           print "}";
           print "#spoiler" . $num . ":hover";
           print "{";
           print "display: block;";
           print "}";
           $num++;
       }
    }
}
print "-->";
print "</style>";
Then, when you insert the spoiler tags into the posts through what I can only imagine to be something like a preg_replace or maybe str_replace, you can do something similar to what I put here and make each have a corresponding ID number. The first spoiler on the page would have "<span id=\"0\">" and so on.

*edit* I like the code overflow style. Very nice!

Just use relative references to the DOM nodes... should work in most browsers:
Code:
<div>Spoiler about "{option}" ~ [
<a href="#" onclick="this.parentNode.lastChild.style.display='block';">Show</a> |
<a href="#" onclick="this.parentNode.lastChild.style.display='none';">Hide</a> ]
<br /><div style="padding: 5px; margin 5px; border: 2px solid #FF0000; display:none">{param}</div>
</div>
... obviously use a better "style", the above is just a "demo".

Edit: Umm well doesn't work in Opera 6.01 ... but then again, a lot of java script doesn't work for me in Opera 6.01 ~

Well that might be a problem Muir Wood, but I don't remember people saying such a thing.
And anyway it was already said that people who were posting to 'build up' their post count might get a ban.

Bug Report. Deleted Posts Style Bug/Deficiency.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Spoiler for Image - Example:
--------------------------------------------------------------------

The gray layout is nice, altho' all greys can get unerving. It's also probably not such a good idea that the post containers stretch all the way to the edge like they do. :/
I personally prefer the VBulletin 3 Manual style... too bad we can't have it.

BTW,
Q. What happend to the gender next to reputation idea?

I don't understand what the problem you are trying to highlight? Could you explain in more detail.

And what "gender next to reputation" idea? When did we say we would consider or implement this?

It's nothing super serious...

All element containers have a 1px black border but the container for deleted posts doesn't. I presume it was forgoten in the course of development ^^
