Just watched the movie 2 the Lagann-hen, it just ULTRA GODLY EPIC AWESOME .
But to see Nia die make me sad , I really hope it is different from TV series...

Oh? I would of recommended the anime first. But nonetheless, you should watch the anime if you have seen the movies. And indeed, it was epic.

Yeah me too. If I ever had any complaints, it was that. The fact that Nia dies is the only thing that keeps TTGL from being perfect, IMO.

Hm, overall I still think the TV series is better but there a few points of the "movie"/remix/compilation/whatever I did like.

Gurren-hen changes

Spoiler:

Bad
- Too much fast-forward after the initial first episode. Like the meeting of Rossiu and what he stood for was basically a miss and makes his attitude post-time jump kind of empty.
-I thought they would reanimate the Kittan/Black Sibilings episode but I guess that was asking for too much, lol.
-The awesome hotspring episode basically skimmed over.
- When they play Nikopol they always play a lyric-less version of it, it kind of took away the impact of some of my favorite scenes.

Good
- I liked that little bit where it showed more of how the crew lived out their days of traveling.

Lagaan-hen changes

Spoiler:

Bad
- Lordgenome Lazangan battle mostly skimmed over.

Bad/Maybe
- Most like because of the time constraints the whole Rossiu doubting himself thing was compressed to just him trying to kill himself on the ship instead of him going off somewhere. I would be fine with that if Simon still socked him one but it seems Gainax wanted to tease viewers by having that glasses chick slap him instead. Having Simon do a space-warp punch in that scene would seem silly in that situation I guess so maybe that whole scene isn't all that bad.
- No human Boota.
- Extra Nia quirks, the whole writing to Kamina in her journal, I just didn't see much of a point to that however her dream of wanting to spread flowers over the world was ok, seem more like something her character would do.

Maybe Better
- Simon ep.11 moment, way more detailed. Only thing that kind of throws this off me is the fact he kills the 3 Generals in one go afterwards. But being a movie I can understand not much time drawing out their individual battles.
- Kittan sacrifice had a little bit more of a deeper meaning/reason when he explained himself to Grimmy. However I think the actual execution of his sacrifice was done better in the TV series. ROW ROW FIGHT DA POWA opera theme just sync'd better with his death and Simon acknowledging it then transforming Gurren Lagaan once again while making that hotblooded speech of transcending Heaven and Earth and all that, just wonderful Super Robot goodness right there.

Good
- Better details on the building of the various cities
- Lordgenome's acknowledgment of Viral was better presented. I know this not even one of the most important things later in the series but I always liked the General/super loyal Soldier relationship they had going on.
- Lordegenome hacking scene was hilarious.
- Better explanation on the whole "if you kill anti-spiral, Nia dies too" bit. It was pretty sad as she was writing her last entry in journal (maybe this quirk wasn't so bad afterall) and she was starting to process of fading away.

Good/Maybe ****ing Excellent
- The rest of the Dai-Gurren extra people actually lived, was surprised that didn't bite it later on in the movie. However seeing how the grand final battle went I see why they weren't killed off right away.
- Final Battle, this really seem to be the whole point of the movie to me. It had the most change overall. It was hard to imagine how they could even top the TV series final battle moments on a creative level but they really delivered here.

I was kind of thrown off once I saw Nia in her own mech but noticed -everyone- had their own afterwards and was like "hell yes!". Then all combined to form STTGL and I just said "oh ****!". At first I thought it was "Super Kamina" at first (I was expecting a long ass katana to sprout from somewhere) but of course it was more of a "Super Simon".

I was surprised they actually drew nipples in detail for Yoko during the final clash considering how they usually made some effort to cover them up in previous fanservice-ish moments. Not only they gave you nipples of Nia too as a bonus. Yes one shouldn't have been focusing on that bit that much during that moment...but it was hard not to for me when they're thrown in your face like that...in slow motion.

The biggest Giga Drill Breaker ever, not only but Anti-Spiral doing his own vs. it was an even better touch. You really got the feeling the whole universe was just gonna fold under all that clash of power.

...still not done? What more could top this? Oh right Simon and Anti-Spiral fighting mano-a-mano with some of the hardest clash of physical attacks I've seen in a while. With good speakers you could really the power of each hit as they connected. Finally Simon makes a personal drill out of his own blood for the final blow, freaking insane.

Yet I somehow I still like the execution of the final battle better in the TV series, in the movie I got a vibe of "they're really milking this for all it's worth" as I was watching it even though on a creative animation level my mind was blown many times over. Sora iro Days just sync'd better in the TV series final battle so that's maybe why I liked it more there.

After finishing the movie I feel this more of a great treat for fans instead of something that you could recommend one over the other mainly for the extra final battle footage.

Yep. Some parts of the movie were a lot better than the anime, but mostly the anime topped the movie.

First of all, Rossieu trying to shoot himself on the ship was just stupid. It was like there was no bond between the two as friends. Stupid. It was WAY more badass when Simon does a warp with Gurren laggan and does a super Chuck Norris flying punch (=GAR). However I also liked that most of the battle scenes were kickass. In fact, I enjoyed several parts of the movie. I liked how most of the crew survived (although it was more realistic for them to die, war has casualties) and showed up in the parallel "what-if" world, and fought in the epic ending battle. Coolest part, no doubt, Simon fist-fighting the Anti-Spiral. I had no idea that Simon could turn any more cooler than he already was, but this topped it. That and Super TTGL. It was too bad STTGL didn't really get to fight or anything. Overall, the movie was still good. Yes, way better than gurren-hen. The epilogue was a bonus, but still reminded me of how much I hated the fact that Simon pretty much retired. Maybe he's still badass inside? Look at solid snake, old and still hauling ass.

After watching Gurren-hen and Laggan-hen, it is safe to say that the series was a lot better. I actually didn't like the oversized gurren lagann at the end and only kittan died on their attack in the anti spiral homeworld. Moreover, the individual mechas they had in the end was kinda disturbing, especially when Nia started fighting the anti-spiral. However, the additional scenes were commendable, the rest were just salvaged from the series. Kinda reminded me why I deleted my first download of Gurren-hen. Anyway, those are just my opinion though.

Well, it was a nice bonus IMO. I thought the end was cooler. Simon fist-fighting with Anti-Spiral = Win.

Wow....that was pretty much one of the most awesome things I've seen in a long long long time in anime. Downloading this right now and making me wish that they'd do another GaoGaiGar or show like Gurren-Lagann. Anime seriously needs a sucessor to carry the torch of gar.

Mostly. The last 30 minutes of the first movie is mostly new stuff, and the second movie changes some things too, but the story itself is still the same, and a lot of scenes are just recycled animation from the TV-series.

Gurren-hen was 90% recap. Lagann-hen had some new scenes, I liked the ending a lot.

Finally had time to watch the movie, and by crimson heaven piercing Damn, it was frigging awesome!

Although, there were weakness, more then the TV series, which should be expected from the recap scenes, but I LOVE the extra's.

After watching this movie, there is this tiny little hope that in 10, maybe 20 years time, Gainax might do another remake, or perhaps an add on to the Gurren Lagann series. It wouldn't be 'impossible'
