Really looking forward to this since I heard about their Fall show, especially when 7th said Imaishi wanted to make a show that appealed as much as Gurren Lagann as opposed to P&S. Really excited to see what they can do on the animation side, especially with their goals as well as the focus on hand to hand combat.

Don't know why people keep bringing up Medaka Box... it's not that close to it...

Something about the character designs and the giant implements used as weapons, I think.
Just a similar overall aesthetic, but obviously this is going to be far better than Medaka Box ever was.

I was completely turned off by this when I first read about the high school setting. Now that I know it takes place in a post apocalyptic world I'm much more interested.

It's not. It just shares the premise of a female protag in a "battle high school". Not a new concept in the slightest, but Medaka Box was the most recent incarnation of such a scenario, so it's fresh in people's minds. I can't speak for others, but I personally felt it was more relevant than something more dated like... let's say Real Bout High School, so that's why I made the comparison.
