Pretty good episode, showing Jonah's past. Although the last few minutes kind of felt like filler material. It'd be ideal if they added a bit more to his background IMO.

I'd really like to see Valmet and Chiquita go at it, just for the awesome choreography and show of skills I wonder who is better? What happens when Koko's men meet someone with equivalent skill and experience as them?

It was on my list, too. But I guess I was just looking at the number of posts here, which put it in the middle of the pack. In a recent poll on Biglobe in Japan, it came 11th, about a third of the way down. About the same place in number of posts on 2channel. Not bad, but I think it deserves more attention. Not totally ignored, though, you're right.

Jormungand is like a youngish bottle of Bordeaux that's a little closed, and doesn't reveal it's full wealth of flavor until it's had a while to react with the air outside the bottle and open up. We saw that process begin in earnest last week, and continue in a big way with this episode.

Jonah... What a complicated little man he is. He never says anything unless it's worth saying, and he never forgets anything he hears.

To be honest though, I was expecting a bit more from white fox after the great job they had done with katanagatari. There was a lot of awkwardness in the action scenes during ep 3 and overall the show isn't as compelling as the manga version. Ep 5 has been a huge improvement over previous eps in terms of pacing and directing though.

this ep we more on johan's past & also meet loco koko's brother casper & his smiling bodyguard Chiquita (maybe why she smile "let put a smile on their faces").

give yea johan got probs with koko's brother due johan go wild attack base all for what they did to marka have marka meet landmine.

oh my johan is so tick take-out everyone then here come Chiquita to grab johan & meet with casper indeed Hekmatyar family are quite loco sometimes.

yet after some hmm make johan be koko's guard & rest is history?

OK, so Chinatsu got broken last episode, so we get an even nastier replacement in Chiquita? Will be interesting to see what Chiquita does later on.

Was there a point to Jonah taping his hand to the knife?

Koko's brother is possibly even crazier than she is. He's definitely nastier, at least. I didn't except him to have that kind of history with Jonah. This is really interesting.

So this time we get to see Koko's brother.
Judging by her first reaction, she wasn't glad to see him.
What Koko was trying to prevent was, I guess, unavoidable after all.
Those parts of Jonah's past were very informative.
Jonah sure is one scary kid, but that's no wonder.
It was nice learning more about Jonah.
Wonder what kind of "fun" waits for them in Africa.

Best episode so far fleshing out Jonah with a great flashback (..).

This episode didn't grab me. It just felt like it lacked energy, the animation wasn't all that impressive, the background story wasn't very interesting,...it just sort of died.

This episode had some pacing issues and got really boring at the end. Though it looks like we'll see some more background from Valmet which I'm looking forward to.
