With all the 9-ish scores it implies that DmC must have done something excellent that would overlook the minor flaws (Cause no game is perfect).
So I'm not exactly sure what is it that they did great.

the way i judge the game usually (based on metacritic score) 1-5: BAD. wont play unleash if there is strong positive feedback 6: Flawed 7: Average 8-9: Good or I having fun with it 10: No glaring issue of course if there is a strong critic from other gamers that against the score. I will listen it.

so far, roughly 80% of game that i play roughly match with metacritic score If other gamer say the game is bad even if it good review then I listen. of course it has to be a valid excuse not just "the game is bad because the last 5 minute sucks!" stuff. same also if the game have bad score but other gamer say it's a good game. then I will try the game

I shall list problems with metacritic.
1. They convert scores of different scales 1:1 to a percentage-based scale, but this is flawed because not all scales are 1:1 with each other. 2. They also give the more popular websites more weight than the less popular ones. 3. The user reviews are done mostly by idiots who think it's actually humanly possible for something to be bad enough to deserve scores of 3 or lower. The idea that anything could be that bad is the stuff of nightmares. 4. Game publishers have recently been using metacritic as a measuring stick for successs, which itself has caused a backlash from games journalists who do not like this level of responsibility being dumped on them. Worse still, Obsidian failed to receive full payment from Bethesda for their developing of Fallout New Vegas because the game was 1 point less of the stipulated metacritic score of 85 as given in their contract to develop it. 5. Perhaps most controversial, Gamespot initially put up a fraudulent review of the game Natural Selection 2 but have since taken it down and replaced it with a more informed review, but Metacritic have refused to remove the old score and review quote because of some flawed policy. |

1. Fair point
2. Do they really skew the result. say if IGN give game 9 will metacritic change it to 10? 3. Is not like i care about user review score most of them are troll anyway -_-. thought if it have valid criticism (and many people agree) then i listen 4. I heard that news before. while it certainly bad for obsidian (and the "bad person" is T2). I dont see how this effecting MC score vs Game quality. NV deserve 85 from what I heard. A very good game but plague with bug which consider to be worse than Fallout 3 (thought it's 70 in my book) 5. Hmm never heard that news before. thought looking from situation, even if they fixed the score. it doesnt really effect the overall score.

^This. The story might be more understandable but they keep saying that gameplay is "Evolved". Certainly not the case here for "Advanced combat" in my opinion so far. Hope it would prove me wrong though because DmC have much more freedom and accessibility in weapons than any Hack N' Slash/Action game.

What a joke Jim Sterling is. This man is among the loudes when it comes to bitching about how games are dumbed down and catering to the casuals yet here he is giving it a 9/10.
Well all that remains are good sales and OG DMC is pretty much dead. |
