I get the feeling that all the otaku at Gainax sat around for the last two years saying "wouldn't it look cool if" and put it all in the remakes.

Gainax doesn't waste time sitting around and think.

They just create it and doesn't care whether the fans will like it or not.

That is how Gainax works, that's how they are become successful.

Yeah, but he's right in one aspect: They do whatever the hell they want with what they milk. And I mean whatever the hell they want. Part of that approach they have to creativeness is the charm Gainax has--even though it backfired on them several times.

Well, as long as the overall balance sheet held out, they'll do it. They did come very close to emptying the kitty permanently.

Meh, that's partly how it is to survive in the cutthroat animation buisness. At least they have enough will to create works that many refer to as "groundbreaking" or "original" or "unique"

(In quotes because although I believe it to be so, weither they are or not is really up to opinion).

To me Eva is one of the few shows that created a phenonmenon that actually is deserving of the hyped praise it gets (to a certain extent)

I look forward to what Mr. Anno will want to say this time. Hopefully it will be something that will let people rest easy at night after seeing the films (as I am SUUREE the End of Eva did for millions

)

EoE was an "Up yours" from Anno-sensei to the rabid fans. I remember reading somewhere that he considered the last 2 eps of the series to be the true ending, and it had closure.

HAHHAA, I read that some where too.

I can see how. I love all of the Eva animation cause it is a hell of an experience. But I remember liking the ending of the TV series when I first saw it. The movies are a nice compliment, but I prefer the ending to the TV show better (hanging plot threads aside) if only for the sake of Shinji's resolution.

I read recently that part of the reason Eva was so big was due to non-anime fans as well watching it, I have a feeling that the more hardcore fans would have been the ones really bitching (and sending death threats) about the ending to the tv series.

I'm hoping to see a little more upbeat Eva this time around. Even though I applaude Anno for bucking trends and making a hell of depressing ending, it still was depressing.

Not to revive one of the oldest and bitterest divides in fandom, but I was definitely a big supporter of the TV ending vs. the EoE ending. Felt much more true to the material.

Hurrah, an ally! Talk about controversial, hell my friend and I often get into arguments about the characters themselves (hint: I thinks I'm crazy that I don't abhore Shinji, in a way I actually liked him).

Soul mate! I kinda like Shinji, too - how can you not feel for anyone who had to endure what he endured? Compared to Shinji Ikari, Job was Mr. Lucky. For me, he was sort of like an annoying little brother that you wanted to strangle sometimes but couldn't help caring about.

Now Asuka - she was the one I couldn't stand.

The original script of the last two episodes claimed otherwise. There is nothing major that was changed in the movie; Misato and Ritsuko's death were already planned in the aired final two TV episodes, and was only shown in full in the movie. NERV headquarters was suppose to be invaded by soldiers, and a lot of people died. All of that was suppose to happen.

Finally, someone who understands. Although Shinji IS to an extreme, I sympathyzed with him on a personal note (not being the best social bird) and in the standard audience role because I think many people would be as traumatized as the kid was throughout the show if he had to go through what he did.

I never got the "divide" on this. It's practically the same ending in terms of character development--only that the movie makes a bit more sense in terms of the unfolding of events. Which makes sense, since Gainax ran out of money by the time the series was ending.

Hence, they learnt their lesson and decided to milk successful series to pay for other (possible) failures.

In other news, YS's art is still the best I've seen so far. Every time I buy the manga tankubons, my anger at waiting always go away.
