12 episodes x 24 minutes = 252 minutes (cutting opening and ending)

130 + 109 = 239 minutes

Yeah and the moral lesson is: See it through the end.

Well, Urobuchi did say before that the movie was centered on Homura so yeah, I was thinking that same.

Let's hope Urobuchi isn't trolling.

Honestly, this concept has real potential... It just also has real risks.

If executed well, it could take Madoka Magica to an even higher level, making it deeper and richer.

If executed poorly, though, it could really make a mess out of PMMM-verse...

It makes sense for Madoka, post Episode 12 of PMMM, to feel a certain crushing weight under the burden that her new role entails. Madoka was never, after all, a person of truly iron will (Episode 4 of the series proper makes this pretty clear). And she is mentally just a young girl, really.

If Madoka goes through deep psychological turmoil, and comes through that successfully in a "final two episodes of NGE" sort of way, then that could be fantastic.

But of course there is also the danger of this route undoing much of the narrative strength that the original anime had.

If nothing else, it likely indicates real ambition on the part of the third movie. It doesn't sound like they're going to play it safe.

This is an interesting idea but maybe he means something a little more concrete?

For example, I remember Homura said that the world is heading towards destruction at the end of the series. Maybe they're building upon that idea. Let's say that Madoka's power wasn't enough to offset the bad karma generated by her own wish, and so the distortions of the world (in the form of Maju) are increasing in number more and more over time.

I could see the plot having a mystery tone, following Homura trying to figure out why the number of Maju keeps increasing so fast, only to find out at the end that it all comes down to Madoka not being able to hold the world together on her own...

...or something like that. =P

The thing is, we already know what happens in that case. Madoka's giant soul gem shatters to release a universe-ending witch... which will be dealt with by the ultimate Madoka. And if She falls to despair, there will still be a Madoka to take care of her. Because such is the nature of Madoka's wish.
But Gen's probably the only writer who would see that as a challenge and meet it head on, rather than an inconvenience to be retconned away. And he'd succeed too, if his work with Fate/Zero is any indication.

Who wants to bet that the sequel movie would be at least 3 hours long?

Homura's "witch" wings might be related to madoka not being able to hold despair any longer, I am hoping for a madoka vs homura showdown.

The wings were confirmed as an attack of hers, not her witching out. Also, I can't imagine Madoka and Homura ever fighting, unless you mean with one as a witch (which.. is impossible at this point, since they can't become witches).

If Urobuchi is to be believed, I actually think Homura will somehow, someway, take or share Madoka's burden, which could explain why her wings become chaotic and witch-like at the epilogue. She is now also carrying the despair and grief of all magical girls across time, making her the guardian angel of earth. The "ganbatte" at the end is Madoka trying to comfort Homura and cheer her on for her new responsibility, which could last for eternity.

Spoiler:
