He tends to avoid other people, can't even remember their faces, and spends much of his spare time making manga. When a group of gals accidentally find his manga most of them laugh, but one is simply impressed, and while the rest leave she stays behind. Nagatoro begins to relentlessly tease Senpai until he begins to cry, and continues to come after him day after day. However he can't seem to hate or reject her the way he does with most people, maybe because there seems to be something other than a desire to torment him in her constant antics.

Don't let the first chapter or two fool you, this is an incredibly wholesome series, as those who've watched the anime can also attest to. Rather than a bully who wants to hurt or abuse "Senpai", Nagatoro comes across instead as almost as awkward as him when it comes to relationships, trying to just tease him and mess around with him but often going too far, to her own embarrassment as often as his.

BTW, just as Senpai's name hasn't been revealed in the published volumes yet, Nagatoro's first name was only revealed fairly recently in one of my absolute favorite scenes.

For lack of conversation, I thought I'd add one of my favorite parts as well as where things are now.

First, one of my favorite parts of the series to date is when Nagatoro's first name is revealed.

As for where things are now, still not a couple but a lot closer, and now Nagatoro's just become a second-year.

In the most recent arc, there was a judo tournament coming up and Nagatoro seemed extremely unenthusiastic about it. She eventually reveals that she used to be really passionate about judo, and really great at it, but one girl at her dojo kept fighting her and getting better, until she made it from someone who couldn't get a point against her to someone she couldn't even begin to compete with. Feeling this unbreakable wall Nagatoro just gave up and refused to do judo anymore. What's worse, in this school judo tournament she and Senpai both have to participate in, that same girl is also participating, despite now being a candidate for the Olympic team. It takes a lot of work for Senpai to convince Nagatoro to take a shot, but eventually she agrees as long as he tries his best too, promising that if he wins a match she'll kiss him. While he's losing at first, with some encouragement from her he turns the tables, only for time to run out, resulting in him losing by points. Nagatoro finally matches up against her past rival, and ends up the same way: losing at first, but managed to turn things around before losing by points at the time limit. Walking home she declares she'll win next time, and then asks Senpai to kiss her as a reward if she does (and even tells him before she leaves that this time she's not teasing).

After this, as she models for Senpai for the first time in the new year she mentions that she'd joined the judo club, with the specific goal of beating that girl and winning her kiss. This leads to a typical argument as he comes up with excuses and she just demands to know if he wants to kiss her, only to be interrupted as a new girl enters: a kouhai who'd just entered the school and joined the art club. She presents a very formidable rival, due to knowing Senpai well, and being very willing to do anything he wants her to do up to and including modeling in the nude (she happens to be the former president's cousin and shares her extreme disregard for modesty). Nagatoro and Senpai both end up stressed, partly because her club activity drastically reduces the time they can be together and partly due to the obvious jealousy. That said, Nagatoro's getting a lot of encouragement from her friends, and the new kouhai is actually very supportive of their love. With some encouragement from said kouhai, Senpai finally managed to ask Nagatoro out on a date.

I honestly love this series. Nagatoro looks like a bully at first, but really it feels like a mixture of trying to goof around but getting a little overboard and, very frequently, trying to hide her own embarrassment and feelings behind a sadistic facade.

Honestly prefer club President Sana Sunomiya as a character over Nagatoro though, that calm yet focused passion makes a great artist indeed.

Even though I dislike love triangles it would have been interesting to see the president as love rival of nagatoro.

Well, as of now, she's become an even more minor character as she's now in college and just occasionally comes by on her motorcycle. And her cousin doesn't look like she's interested in interfering with the source of her senpai's passion, so yeah, I don't think we should be expecting any serious triangles here.

Both the former club president and the cousin are basically shippers and are helping senpai find the courage to act on his feelings. At the same time the president managed to stir up Nagatoro's jealousy with her having two great....assets and being close to senpai, so I'd say we got the best of both worlds.

Getting a pretty good demonstration of the former president and her cousin's positions lately, with Senpai and Nagatoro on their first date and those two following to try and stop Gamo and Yoshi from interfering "to protect Paisen's virginity".

I'm 95% certain it's her big brother. I know she has one in the older Pixiv series, but I haven't read that version so I don't know if he fits (though of course even if he doesn't look like it 774 could've just changed his look).

TBH, given how nervous and awkward she always got whenever anything actually happened between them, I'm just about sure that she's never even been on a date before Senpai. She may have called him "virgin" all the time early on but I'd be rather shocked if she wasn't every bit as inexperienced in every aspect of romance as him. So yeah, almost sure he's her brother, completely sure he's not her ex.

Has to be her brother. She mentioned him waaaaaaaaaaaay early on in the series (such that when her sister was introduced, I remember wondering if the "brother" term used before had been a mistranslation/gender assumption issue).

Confirmed he is the brother, despite looking different than in the doujin. The misunderstanding also was played very differently.

As she leaves them in Nagatoro's room she mentions Senpai's apparent desire to find out more about Nagatoro, and in response Nagatoro offers to share one secret if he beats her at a video game. She's shocked when he says he just wants to know her name (partly because she didn't realize she'd never said it), but agrees. She teases him too much and doesn't pay attention to the game until her loss is announced, and with a surprisingly gentle tone starts to say her name only for Senpai to stop her, saying that it feels wrong to "win" her name. He says someday he'll ask her directly, which draws a heavy blush. She hides her embarrassment with more light teasing before agreeing yeah, someday. The two stare into each other's eyes only for the door to fly open and Ane-toro barges in shouting "Hayase-chan! I found an old album! Let's look at it together with Senpai-kun, Hayase-chan!!" I swear that woman must have been listening at the door just waiting for the perfect timing to barge in and wreck the mood. This gets even cuter later when Senpai catches Hayase's cold and she comes to care for him. He gets feverish enough to start to hallucinate, thinks he's dreaming of being married to Nagatoro and thus when she offers food to him says "Thanks, Hayase". She freaks out really hard over actually hearing him say her name, and tries to get him to say it again while pretending to tease him, but he's already fallen asleep. She starts begging him to wake up and say her name again, even threatens to kiss him if he doesn't, only to be interrupted as Senpai's mom gets home, so she runs away in a panic.
