One interesting observation I've read is that the adult kidnappers are Titans where as kid Eren and Mikasa are the tiny humans.

More than likely a kid don't stand a chance against an evil adult and can't protect themselves.

So the question is are you so helpless that you wont help yourself at all?

That is why when Eren's mom died Mikasa is reminded of her family's murder. Like back then she was powerless to save them.

Mikasa does not want to experience that trauma again that why she wants to be with Eren to the point of obsession.

The moment Eren pass his Scarf (When equip, Badass +100) to Mikasa, we already know why Mikasa>Eren.

When Eren has his scarf - kill 2 Adult Kidnappers

When Mikasa is wearing Eren Scarf - 5 Titan kill

Do not underestimate the power of Eren Scarf

He was living a normal life up until he saw the dead bodies which clearly had a huge effect on him. This is purely speculation now but I can easily imagine that Eren only ever applied his harsh view of the world against things like bullies and upon seeing the murder decided to take that perspective to it's logical extreme.

This episode was not about Eren, but the kind of effect he had on Mikasa for her to be the way she is in the present. How Eren achieved it, or whether Eren's action stretched the imagination due to his age, or about his own psychological disposition were moot points. We are discussing about a world that has Giants in it after all. The general psyche of the population shouldn't be normal and it isn't. The episode wasn't about Eren at all, or about justifying him or the way he is (was?) in any way. The episode was all about Mikasa.
I wouldn't go as far as to say this episode wasn't about Eren at all. After all, this episode was about Eren's effect on Mikasa so it had to be about Eren to some extent. But I do think the episode was more about Mikasa than Eren.

It was also about Armin to an extent too. Poor Armin get's completely forgotten...

Eh. Armin may be the one that Mikasa learns about Eren's fate.

Poor, poor Mikasa. She has enough tragedy in her life and now she no longer has the man in her life that gave her something to live for.

I wouldn't want to be the one telling Mikasa that Eren was killed. I wonder how Armin felt(if he was the one who tells Mikasa). And that gloomy looking Mikasa at the end was just

Better than being eaten in the freaking fifth episode. Also, how medieval is the setting? Her parents didn't tell Mikasa how children are born (or maybe they found it awkward) while Eren and Armin were so surprised about the description from the world.

Considering not only did humanity stay hidden behind walls for 100 years but all information about the outside world was banned...it's not that surprising that Eren and Armin were so awestruck by hearing about the outside world.

She was like 9 years old, of course they didn't tell her.

The realization that Eren has more awesomeness than all of Yuki Kaji's other roles combined. Granted, most of them were negative, but hey...

Sometimes my back feels so stiff, I want a titan to grab me by my arms and legs and just stretch me out a bit.

Oh yes, the power of the Red Scarf greatly enhanced the wearer's killing instincts and reflexes by the factor of 4. Not to mention the wearer also granted a spider sense too.

That scarf could better be a HAX armor. I'm sure this scarf thing would become a running gag soon enough.

BTW, I think Yuuki Kaji did a splendid job as Eren, compare to his many other characters, if not all. Still, I have no idea why those kind of people are being so unreasonably butthurt of Yuuki Kaji's characters and his talent.

Why so past tense? This could just be me missing things as usual, but until I see that key that just showed up around his neck in episode 2 in a steaming pile of former-Eren, I expect to see him again at some point. That sequence was surely way too heavy to simply write him off like this. (Now feel free to tell me why I'm already wrong. )

Did he have the key around his neck while 3D-Maneuvering?
