-Hachikuji is no more. Seriously, I don't want to see a bittersweet farewell ruined.
-That doesn't seem to be the problem anymore. It seems there is nothing Araragi can do about it, at least up to the point I am now.
-The problem is not Hana, the problem is where does the story with Kanbaru and Gaen fit in? I'm starting to believe it will be an extra volume, or maybe even an anime original.

This is a short book, 50-60 pages shorter than the average of the series. In itself I was disappointed in how short it was. It didn't drag, but it was still pretty uneventful, without any subplot thickening it up. Was the book worthy the long wait? Probably no, I guess. On the other hand, while not exceptional, and not living up to my expectations, it wasn't bad in itself. This is a book that advances the overall story of the series, it raises many issues and acts as the prelude for the last cycle, so in its own way it's very important. It also has decent humor, plenty of KoyoTsuki flags, and the end was very satisfying. It's just a pity that the book appears to be a bit hasty. Like this, it's worthy just 3 episodes of stuff. If only there was something to thicken it up, this book could have made you say "uwao".

In short:
-Araragi discovered he couldn't see himself on a mirror anymore.
-He chose to call Yotsugi for help. To be safe, he sent his sisters at Kanbaru's.
-He found Yotsugi together with Yozuru.
-The two explained Araragi that he had turned vampire (=having his blood sucked by Shinobu) too much times, and now he was close to become a vampire forever. If that time came, they would have had to exorcise him.
-Suddenly, they receive a call from Gaen from which they learnt that his sisters and Kanbaru had been kidnapped.
-the kidnapper was called Teori Tadazuru (Tadazuru = sine. Yozuru = cosine. Yotsugi = cotangent), a stray specialist who had cut his ties with Gaen's network, so he could exorcise Araragi even despite he had been deemed harmless. Tadazuru wanted to have Yotsugi, he left Gaen's group because of that.
-They found out Tadazuru was waiting for them at the usual Kitashirohebi Shrine.
-Araragi and Yotsugi go ahead.
-Araragi sent Yotsugi to check for the hostages while he temporized by talking with Tadazuru (and he couldn't turn into a vampire anymore).
-Tadazuru told Araragi he had noticed a mastermind behind the events, and urged him to find Oshino. Then he let himself be killed by Yotsugi. "I killed him because I am a monster. Don't you ever become like me, devil brother"
-Araragi understood that the purpose of this story was making him estranged with Yotsugi, who had become a murderer in front of his eyes. He had lost Hachikuji, Nadeko, and now Yogtsugi.
-In the end of the book, Araragi learned his sisters had a new doll: Yotsugi. Gaen sent her there so that she and Araragi could still be friend.

This and other details, like the fact that Kagenui doesn't walk on the ground being the result of a curse (but we don't get to know by whom).

No, I meant that Shinobu sucking his blood is how he turns himself vampire. It happened that he turned vampire too many times.

He is no Kissshot, but neither is Shinobu. Well, if Araragi got actually killed then Shinobu would return to be Kissshot. Still, you don't have to count only Kagenui in, there are even other exorcists.

Anyway, Araragi would also have to suck blood to live as a vampire.

Hanamonogatari sort of revealed the end in advance. I wonder how the details will fit.

No, I guess you are not the only one, though personally I don't read this series for that.

Wasn't it mentioned in Kabuki that Kissshot X defeated Oshino, Kagenui and Kaiki at the same time?

Anyways I'm actually afraid of the direction this series seems to be ending on. It seems Nisio wants everything to be resolve. Meaning Arargi becomes human, Mayoi passing on, Kanbaru losing the devil, Nadeko becoming more than just cute and Tsubasa becoming "normal".

Then they just need to defeat Shinobu before Araragi

Araragi is still partly vampire. He has to keep his hair long because he won't appear in photos anymore, and he has to use those he already got.

All the rest is just something to be expected. It was that kind of atmosphere from the start: once the characters grow up, they become normal.

The only thing that puzzles me is how Nisio will resolve things about Shinobu.

Shinobu just needs to/will die. That is what she came there for anyway. Araragi can't do anything about it ala Onimono. Unless there's that 20 page dialogue of explanation courtesy by Araragi to Shinobu and the exorcists to change things and Meme to neutralize things.

If she dies then that'd be ridiculous. No way i'd like the series anymore. And we don't even have enough info on her to know much at all.
