Kyon doesn't just has his eyes on Mikuru only, in the novels, he frequently imagines Haruhi in the various costumes Mikuru wears lol
And Haruhi catches him all the time, like when he was wondering about a 'battle waitress Haruhi' lol.

I think the reason Kyon doesn't always stop Haruhi is because, whether he knows it or not, he having just as much fun as she is. He always intervenes when Asahina's suffering because too great, though. |

I know that when I watch the series I always have to remind myself that no matter what Kyon says, it's still Kyon (ie a human being) saying it, and he's very much a human being not being honest with himself/realizing his "true" subconscious feelings. It's an oddly refreshing feeling. |

From episode 4:
Someone probably mentioned it before, but I guess the real reason why Haruhi didn't go ahead was because Kyon himself said ponytails turned him on. Dang, I need to rewatch the series to catch all this minor references. |

Im just glad they didnt make kyon just like every other spineless shinji clone "nice guy" It was the fact that the main male character wasnt some lame cookie cutter cliche that got me intersted in this series in the first place.

I thought the Snow White and Sleeping Beauty references were ever so slightly cheesy though. Plus...aren't they two different stories? One has the apple, and one has like a frog I thought? They should've been consistent about it. And I didn't feel like their significance was adequately explained, and instead they were kind of forced. I could infer their significance, but I would've liked it to be at least a little more spelled out. Initially I had no idea how the Snow White premonition would play out. I'm still unclear on it. Snow White and Sleeping Beauty are tied together by a single similar ending.
Snow White ate a magical poison apple and 'died', but the magic was broken by a kiss from the Prince. Sleeping Beauty was stung by a magical poison needle and was 'put to sleep', again this spell can be broken by a Prince. To break Haruhi's 'spell' and wake her from the dream, 'Prince' Kyon has to kiss her.

Kyon in the novel thought about the two "hints", and claim that by the stage they were running away from the blue giants, he already knows what it meant he has to do. But just like our good old Kyon, he kept complaining about how cliched this is, and that he really doesn't want to "play by the script". The whole reason why you have two different fairy-tales, is because you are suppose to identify what was in common between these two stories. (p.s. Frog? What frog? There is no frogs in Sleeping Beauty or Snow White! )

Must've been another story, I think where a princess kisses a frog actually. I never did like how Sleeping Beauty and Snow White were so similar. Snow White was ugly too
Kyon kissing Haruhi--sure it woke her, but why? There has to be some rationale behind it. Otherwise we have a fairy tale on our hands. Which is romantic enough, but not logical! Those giants definitely reminded me of Mononoke.
