KyoAni took out the explanation, because it just seemed too obvious (apparently not obvious enough
) and likely would ruin the "shock" of the kiss.
Kyon in the novel thought about the two "hints", and claim that by the stage they were running away from the blue giants, he already knows what it meant he has to do. But just like our good old Kyon, he kept complaining about how cliched this is, and that he really doesn't want to "play by the script".
The whole reason why you have two different fairy-tales, is because you are suppose to identify what was
in common between these two stories.
(p.s. Frog? What frog? There is no frogs in Sleeping Beauty or Snow White!
